Gorakhpur: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS Gorakhpur) has started the online application process for PhD course Session-2023.

Candidates have to fill up the application form (available on the AIIMS website) in hard copy and should submit it through Registered post along with all required supporting documents as annexures, which should reach the PhD committee, AIIMS, Kunraghat, GorakhUPUP 273008 before the last date of submission 01.05.2023.
Simultaneously, candidates must also fill up the prescribed application form on Google, available at the following link. https://forms.gle/PVevMrbXw7QDGG6e8.
Any Amendment/Rectification/Change/Editing is not allowed in Name, Date of Birth, Community, Department and PWBD status, etc., once filled. Incomplete forms will be rejected. In the event of rejection of the application form, no correspondence/request for reconsideration will be entertained.
Candidates will be allocated seats based on their merit in the exam and interview by PhD Doctoral Research Committee (DRC). Successful candidates will be subjected to eligibility criteria of respective projects before admission. They should have a sponsorship/fellowship from UGC/CSIR/ICMR/DST/DBT/similar govt. Organizations. The institute will provide no financial aid, AIIMS Gorakhpur, for research work/stipend/any other form.
Candidates who are allotted a seat but do not join or resign after joining will not be eligible for rounds additional seat allocation rounds.
Rules and regulations of the PhD program are amenable to change, and the institute can exercise its powers to amend/interpret/implement decisions with academic matters, which will be notified in the corrigendum at AIIMS Gorakhpur website regularly.

The demand draft should favour AIIMS - Gorakhpur, payable at Gorakhpur. NEFT details are enclosed in the notice below. The receipt of the NEFT payment has to be attached to the form. Application forms without the D.D. or the NEFT receipt will not be considered.

7. Proof of award of eligible fellowship for non-medical candidates from ICMR/ CSIR/DBT & other established scientific bodies.
8. Sponsorship certificate (in prescribed format duly signed by competent authority as annexed in the prospectus)
9. Documents related to past research experience, if any.
10. 1st page of Research Papers published in precedingthree3 years in PubMed /SCOPUS/ DOAJ/Web of Science indexed Research Publications
11. NOC from the head of the institute suggesting that they will be allowed for the full-time PhD course at AIIMS Gorakhpur if selected. NOC from Diplomatic channel & Ministry of Health & Family Welfare in case of Foreign Nationals
12. Undertaking by the candidates that they will not take any other academic course simultaneously during the tenure of the PhD.

Eligibility for PhD course –
A candidate seeking admission to the course of study leading to the award of a Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) must have prescribed educational qualifications, funding for their research projects, or have sponsorship for the entire duration of PhD as mentioned below –
Medical -
Medical qualification -
1. MBBS/BDS with minimum 55% aggregate marks or MD/MS/MDS/DM/M.Ch.in the subject concerned or Diplomat of National Board of Examination. Candidates who have obtained these degrees from medical colleges not recognized by the Medical Council of India/ NMC shall not be eligible to apply.
2. The candidates holding MBBS/MD/MS/MDS/DM/MCh/MPhil degree only are eligible for PhD in the Medical Humanities section PhD program Session-2023.
Nursing Qualification -
1. Candidates holding an M.Sc. degree with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in the Nursing courses will also be eligible for PhD admission to the College of Nursing.
Non-Medical –
1. For non-medical Candidates, eligibility shall be a Master's degree (02-year course) awarded by UGC approved Indian University or equivalent in Medical subjects (Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Immunology, Genetics) /M-Biotech / M- Tech (Biotechnology) only will be eligible in their respective concerned field. Candidates having eligibility under non- medical category should have at least 55% marks or equivalent in the last eligibility examination qualified.
2. Candidates possessing a Master's Degree through distance learning courses shall not be eligible for a PhD.
Eligibility for PhD Course seats: Apart from educational qualifications, candidates must fulfil ANY of the following criteria to become eligible for PhD -
1. Candidates who have qualified for the National Entrance Tests leading to the award of a fellowship tenable at AIIMS Gorakhpur.
2. In-service or sponsored candidates who will receive their salary/stipend from the sponsoring/parent organization during the whole period of their PhD, along with NOC from them for the whole time PhD course.
Relaxation –
A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% (i.e. 50% ), will be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC(non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled, and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in the eligibility. Where the grading system is followed, the eligibility marks of 55% or an equivalent grade on a point scale are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures, if any.
Candidates from Foreign educational institutions having a degree equivalent to a post-graduate degree of MPhil or MS/ MD from a reputed and well-accredited foreign educational institution abided by statutory authority can be considered after approval of the Doctoral Research Committee (DRC) if any Biomedical science or Health science related topic is proposed in India with required funding as a full-time course. Final approval should be from the Executive Director AIIMS, Gorakhpur, for the PhD course eligibility of foreign nationals, as per norms.
1. Foreign nationals must complete the application and pass the entrance test.
2. Foreign nationals are required to send their applications through Diplomatic Channel.
Mandatory criteria -
1. PhD course program, AIIMS Gorakhpur, is a full-time research program.
2. Candidates working under Central Govt./Semi Govt./Autonomous organization should submit their applications through the proper channel, i.e. employer. They will be required to submit a 'No Objection Certificate" from their employer (Head of the institute) before they are allowed to join the PhD Course.
3. Candidates likely to complete the requisite qualification and degree by 30.04.2023 may also apply. All such candidates must submit a certificate on the letterhead of the College/University, signed and stamped by the Registrar/Dean/Principal, confirming that the candidate is likely to complete the eligibility qualification by 30.04.2023. (This does not apply to claiming Fellowship, proof of which must be submitted before the last date of submission) Interview and Admission to the PhD course will be allowed only if the the candidate's requisite qualifications are complete as per the date defined—candidates completing their requisite qualification after 30.04.2023 are not eligible. Completing the requisite qualification means that the final result of the qualifying exam must have been cleared before the last date specified.
4. Internal applicants from AIIMS Gorakhpur as Faculty/ regular employees for PhD registration will be considered in-service candidates per guidelines in section "D" of a prospectus.
5. A candidate is allowed to apply form for a PhD in one speciality/department only.
6. Candidate must have a research project in Medical, Nursing, & Medical humanities subject for PhD 2023 course along with funding. The institute will provide no financial aid, AIIMS Gorakhpur, for research work/stipend/any other form.
Duration of the course –
The PhD course duration shall be at least three years for all candidates. The maximum period of the course shall not exceed five years. Extension beyond 5 years can be given for a maximum period of 6 months on the recommendation of the Academic cell/ DRC, and final approval will be by Executive Director AIIMS Gorakhpur based on genuine reason. Course completion implies thesis submission and assessment.
Method of selection –
A four-stage performance evaluation will be done as follows –
1. STAGE I:30 Marks (30 MCQs of 1 Mark each) Aptitude-related MCQs covering English (Written and verbal skills), Biostatistics, Research Methodology, Cell Biology, Lab Technology, etc.
2. STAGE-II: 40 Marks (40 MCQs of 1 Mark each) Subject-related comprising Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) of MD/MS/MDS/M.Sc. Entrance level.
3. Total Marks (Stage I + II): 70 (30+40)
4. Total Duration (Stage I + II): 90 Minutes
5. Candidates must score at least 35 marks (50%) in Stages I and II (Combined) to qualify for Stage III. Candidates who do not fulfil the criteria to qualify for stage III will not be eligible for selection.
Special weightage -
Medical / Dental candidates -Ten marks will be added to the total score of Stages I and II for candidates who fulfil both the following criteria:
1. Passed stages I & II with 50% marks and are eligible for stage III
2. They also hold a Medical Degree (DNB/ MD/ MS/ DM/ M.Ch./ MDS) or equivalent from MCI/NMC/DCI recognized colleges, respectively.
Non-Medical candidates -Ten0 marks will be added to the total score of Stages I and II for candidates who fulfil both the following criteria:
1. Passed stages I & II with 50% marks and are eligible for stage III
2. They also have qualified in any one of the following National Entrance Tests leading to the award of a fellowship tenable at AIIMS, Gorakhpur - Joint CSIR-UGC NET for JRF, ICMR – JRF/SRF, DBT – JRF, NBHM screening test, INSPIRE fellowship, Other established scientific fellowships
To be eligible for special weightage marks, ALL the following criteria must be fulfilled -
1. The result of the above-listed National Entrance Tests must have been declared.
2. The fellowship award must be based on the result of the above-listed National Entrance Tests.
3. The fellowships should be tenable at AIIMS, Gorakhpur.
4. Passing the listed National Entrance Tests is not acceptable as proof of award of fellowship
5. The letter of award of fellowship must be attached to the application form.
STAGE III –
1. After combining the marks of Stages I, II, and special weightage, three (03) times as many candidates as the number of seats in a department will be called for departmental clinical/practical/lab-based assessment carrying 200 marks). These marks will be added to the marks of stages I + II + special weightage to determine the final total marks. It may include OSCE / OSPE.
2. Candidates who secure 50% marks in Stage-I, II & III Combined (i.e., 50/100) [including special weightage] shall be eligible for Stage IV.
STAGE IV - result –
Includes personal interaction with Board/ Doctoral Research Committee (DRC), where the candidate has to present the proposed research plan for the PhD course and its funding source. The final merit list for allotment will be based on the result of the Board interaction.
Joining –
1. Selected candidates must join as per the date given in their provisional offer letter.
2. The PhD Seats shall lapse if the selected candidates do not join by the prescribed date of joining given by AIIMS Gorakhpur in the provisional offer letter.
3. The candidate must request for the extension joining date with a valid reason along with defining the extension period (should not be more thanthree3 months in any case) in writing if they cannot join by the prescribed date. Approval of extension will be a decision of the Executive Director of AIIMS.
4. In case the candidate is not granted an extension for joining and fails to join by the date given to them in the provisional offer letter, it will be assumed that they do not intend to join the course, and the seat will be offered to the next candidate on the waiting list. No further correspondence will be entertained in this regard
Process of seat allocation -
1. All seats in a department will be clubbed.
2. Candidates will only be eligible for seats in the department they have applied for.
3. Candidates will be allotted seats based on their merit in the entrance examination + personal interaction with DRC/ Board.
4. Candidates who are allotted a seat but do not join or resign after joining will not be eligible for any additional rounds of seat allocation.
Rules for admission for in-service candidates [Applicable for AIIMS Gorakhpur employees (medical) only] –
1. Members of the medical faculty of the institute can apply for PhD program 2023 session as in-service candidates.
2. Candidate should be a regular institute employee and have rendered at least two years of continuous service.
3. The candidate should have at least 5 years of active service left in the institute at the time of application.
4. They should fulfil all eligibility criteria for the PhD program will appear in the entrance examination, and must score a minimum of 50% marks
5. The candidate will be considered in-service provided he furnishes an undertaking that during the PhD tenure, the routine departmental work & assignments will not be affected, and this should be certified by the Head of the Department.
6. The candidate seeking admission must identify a faculty member in the same department or other (one cadre senior to the candidate) willing to be their guide. The candidate should submit a letter of acceptance/undertaking from the concerned faculty member and route his application through the HoD department with approval from the Executive director of AIIMS Gorakhpur.
7. The faculty who have registered themself as candidates will not be eligible to guide any further PhD candidates in the institute till they complete their PhD. However, they can continue to guide /co-guide MD/MS/DM/MCh/MSc candidates.
