Kerala: Though the academic session is almost on the verge of ending, a huge number of seats are still vacant in the Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha colleges of the state.
The Commissioner of the Entrance Examination (CEE Kerala) is yet to complete the total process for admission to medical and allied medical courses. In order to fill the seats, the authorities have decided to hold a spot admission on 18th March at all the homeopathy colleges.
As per a recent media report by Mathrubhumi, the authorities have already conducted two allotments, two mop-up counselling, and a stray vacancy filling session. However, despite following so many vacancy filling processes, there are around 100 seats that are still lying vacant in over 10 Ayurveda colleges of the state. On the other hand, there are 36 seats vacant in the Unani colleges and 17 seats in the Siddha colleges across the state. The annual fees for BAMS seats are Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh.
Under such circumstances, authorities decided to give the colleges one more chance to fill the vacancies. In order to do the same, a spot admission has been scheduled on 18th March at the government homeo colleges of the state. Previously the management was of the view that due to the outbreak of pandemic and imposed lockdown on certain places, aspiring students were unable to travel for admission. However, despite the end of the lockdown, the seats are still lying vacant, reports the daily.
Meanwhile, authorities have extended the last date for admission to Pharma courses till March 25th. The decision was made following the suggestion of the Medical education director as 2 seats under the Central Government quota were still lying vacant under the course. The government has allowed to convert these two seats to merit and continue with admission for 2020-2021.
According to the daily, considering the fact that many of the seats are still lying vacant, Professor E Kunjiraman, president of Kerala state Indian system of medicine self-financing college management association suggested that those medical aspirants who qualified in the entrance examination for the traditional disciplines of medicines but were not included in the list of the state entrance examination commissioner should also be given the chance to enlist themselves for the admission process.
AYUSH Ministry had earlier extended the cut off date for UG, PG AYUSH admissions to 20th March.
