Multiple Domicile Certificates! BFUHS Bars 5 MBBS Candidates
Faridkot: Taking action against five MBBS aspirants, who had submitted domicile certificates from more than one state in violation of the admission rules, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) barred them from admission to MBBS courses in Punjab.
The University's decision comes after parents and candidates submitted numerous complaints about applicants using double domicile to get benefit of admission under State quota in multiple states.
Commenting on this, BFUHS Registrar Dr. Rakesh Gorea informed The Tribune that these candidates submitted false declarations claiming that they had not applied or would not apply for admission under state quota seats in other states.

As per the latest media report by The Tribune, to address these complaints, BFUHS scrutinized the certificates of suspected candidates asking them to provide evidence to prove their eligibility. After this, a review was conducted, and based on the review, five candidates were barred from admission to the MBBS courses in Punjab.
According to the rules, candidates cannot avail the State quota seats in more than one State using their domicile certificate. Tribune has reported that among the 5 candidates who have been debarred, two candidates hail from Chandigarh, and 1 each from Haryana, Chattisgarh, and Uttarakhand.
The problem with the double domicile is not a new one. Several litigations are pending before the High Court over this issue. The reason for the pending litigations is the fact that the students were applying for the State quota seats in Punjab and the other states at the same time. However, this is a violation of the rules since a candidate can avail the benefit of domicile only in one State at one time.
Back in the year 2021, taking note of the problem, BFUHS had directed all the MBBS/BDS candidates and their parents to submit affidavits stating that they were not claiming the benefit of residence anywhere else other than Punjab, except for central counseling.
In fact, back then the University had sacked around seven medical students as they had allegedly availed the benefit of domicile in more than one State by submitting false documents.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in 2022 BFUHS had debarred 40 students, who tried to avail the benefit of domicile in more than one State, from getting admitted to MBBS and BDS courses in the State quota seats in Punjab. These candidates allegedly used false information about their residential status for trying to avail of the domicile benefits in more than one state.
Similarly, back in 2023, 13 NEET-UG candidates were debarred from State quota MBBS/BDS seats in Punjab for trying to avail the benefit of State quota by submitting double domiciles.
