DNB PDCET is a ranking examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) for admission to various post-diploma DNB courses. The candidates, who register for the DNB program after clearing DNB PDCET, need to complete 2 years of practical training under any NBE-accredited institution/hospital/medical college. After completing the practical training, they must appear for the DNB final examination and clear it; only then will they be awarded a DNB degree.

The Government of India established the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) in 1975 to improve the quality of Medical Education by establishing high and uniform standards of postgraduate examinations in modern medicine on an All India Basis and utilizing existing healthcare infrastructure for capacity-building.

The prime objectives of NBEMS are to elevate the standards of postgraduate medical education in modern medicine and conduct examinations of high standards in all of India. It provides a common national average for evaluating the minimum level of attainment of the knowledge and competencies of postgraduate and post-doctoral training.
