NEET 2023 held for over 20 lakh candidates, Easy to Moderate level of difficulty in question paper
New Delhi: The centralized entrance examination for admission to Undergraduate medical courses, NEET UG 2023 was successfully conducted for over 20 lakh candidates on its scheduled date on May 7, 2023.
According to feedback from the aspirants and opinions by the medical experts, the difficulty level of the question paper for NEET UG 2023 easy to moderate. Students have opined that even though the biology paper was relatively easy, the papers of physics and chemistry had moderate to tough level of difficulty.
Lakhs of students appeared for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) examination held on 2023. The exam was conducted in pen-paper mode in 4,075 centres across the country from 2:00 PM to 5:20 PM.
The paper comprised of four subjects and each subject had two sections- A and B. While Section A had 35 questions, there were 15 questions in Section B and the students needed to answer any 10 questions from those 15 questions.
As per the latest media report by India Today, the questions can be categorised into 22 easy questions, 7 difficult questions, 21 medium questions, 12 statement-based questions, 9 multiple-choice questions, and 3 assertion reasoning.
Subject wise common analysis indicates that there were a total number of 15 questions in Physics based assertion and reason. In case of Chemistry, Botany and Zoology, the number of such questions was 40, 50, and 50 respectively. Physics had 35 numerical questions and in case of Chemistry, the number was 10.
In physics, 20 questions were from the syllabus of Class 11, 30 from Class 12. In case of Chemistry, the number of questions from Class 11 and Class 12 were 22 and 28 respectively. There were 23 Botany questions from Class 11 and 26 from Class 12, and in case of Zoology, the number of questions from Class 11 were 36 and another 15 questions were from the syllabus of Class 12.
Times of India adds that students found the Chemistry section more challenging than Physics and Biology as the inorganic part of Chemistry paper was the hardest one. In case of Biology, students opined that the Zoology part was easier than Botany. This year, the students found Physics subject to be average. The daily adds that according to initial reactions of the students, there is going to be a higher cutoff this year for NEET UG 2023.
However, the exam at the 22 centres in Manipur were postponed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) because of the ongoing situation in the State that involved violence.
ANI reported that NTA on Saturday decided to postpone the NEET UG examinations in Manipur till a later date after the Union MoS for External Affairs and Education Rajkumar Ranjam Singh wrote a letter regarding rescheduling the NEET (UG) 2023 examinations.
"Please refer to the D.O. Letter dated May 6, 2023, from Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, MOS, External Affairs and Education, Government of India regarding rescheduling the NEET (UG)-2023 Examination," the NTA said in a notification.
"In this regard, this is to inform you that the NEET (UG)-2023 Exam has been postponed for the candidates who were allotted examination centres in the State of Manipur and their exam will be held at a later date. The candidates are also being informed through automatic call and email," it read further.
Speaking on the development, Singh said that keeping a view of the current situation in Manipur, he had requested to postpone the examinations.
"I had requested them [NEET authority] to postpone the exam, in the current situation. The new date of the exam will be fixed. A total of 8751 candidates were scheduled to appear at the two centres in Manipur," he told ANI.
PTI adds that a total of 25,675 medical aspirants took the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate), or NEET (UG), in Maharashtra's Latur district on Sunday, said officials. Of all those who had registered for the entrance exam, 132 students did not turn up, they said. The exam was held between 2 pm and 5 pm in 56 centres in the district amid CCTV surveillance, they said.
