2 new Medical Colleges to Come up in Bihar, 200 MBBS seats to be added

Patna: Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in Bihar, two new medical colleges are going to come up in the State in Samastipur and Chhapra. Both of these colleges are likely to get recognition from the National Medical Commission for the academic session 2024-2025. 

The intake capacity for both of these medical colleges shall be a total number of 100 MBBS seats and these seats shall be filled via the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). With these, the total number of government MBBS seats in Bihar will be increased from 1770 to 1970.

According to the State Health Department in Bihar, the construction work for these two medical colleges in Chhapra and Samastipur are at the final stage and they are expected to be completed by March.

As per the latest media report by Live Hindustan, after the completion of the work, the process of purchasing necessary laboratory equipment and other items will immediately commence in both of these medical colleges. The Daily further adds that the State Health Department has made complete preparations to get permission from the NMC, the Apex medical education regulatory body. 

Following this, the principal of the medical college will write to NMC seeking its permission to admit students to the 100 MBBS seats in each of these colleges. 

Meanwhile, the new medical college at Narghoghi in Sarairanjan block of Samastipur district of Bihar has been named after Lord Ram and Sita. This new medical college named Sriram Janki Medical College and Hospital (SJMCH) will be inaugurated on January 21. In this regard, the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the State Health Department, Prayaya Amrit has confirmed that the preparations were underway to inaugurate this newly built government medical college on January 21.

The medical college is being inaugurated one day before the "pran pratistha" or the consecration ceremony of Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22. Commenting on the matter, an official said, "The medical college has 100 MBBS seats and a 500-bed hospital with OPD service." Reportedly, the event will be attended by the Chief Minister and Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, among others.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that recently, the Union Minister of State for Health Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar informed the Rajya Sabha that Bihar has a total number of 21 medical colleges with an intake capacity for 2765 MBBS seats. The MoS health had also provided the details of the medical college that have been set up under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme. As per the data, the medical colleges in Saran (Chhapara), Samastipur districts of Bihar have been granted permission under the 1st phase of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
