Hyderabad: Four second-year MBBS students at Government Medical College, Nagarkurnool, have been suspended after they allegedly subjected their juniors to ragging inside the campus hostel.

The incident, which reportedly occurred nearly two weeks ago, involved seniors reportedly forcing first-year students to perform repeated sit-ups.

A junior student later submitted a complaint, following which the college initiated a preliminary inquiry. After reviewing the findings, the Anti-Ragging Committee imposed strict disciplinary action, suspending the four students from classes for two months and removing them from the hostel for one year.

Speaking to PTI, the officials stated, "Four second-year medical students have been suspended for allegedly ragging their juniors here." The incident, which occurred around 15 days ago, involved seniors allegedly forcing juniors to do sit-ups in their hostel. Following a complaint filed by a junior, the college authorities conducted a preliminary inquiry at the Government Medical College in Nagarkurnool district, Telangana, they said.

After a meeting of the Anti-Ragging Committee, disciplinary action was taken against the four senior students, debarring them from attending classes for two months and expelling them from the hostel for one year, a senior official further informed PTI.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a ragging incident from Surabhi Medical College, Siddipet, where a first-year MBBS student has accused eight seniors of mentally and physically harassing him on two separate occasions.

In the first incident, the student stated that four second-year and four fourth-year seniors forcibly shaved his beard with a trimmer, even after he told them he had grown it as part of a vow. After he reported the matter to the college authorities, four of the eight students were suspended.

To take revenge for this disciplinary action, the other four seniors allegedly ragged him again. When he refused to follow their instructions, they warned him of consequences. The student then filed a police complaint along with his mother, following which a case has been registered against all eight seniors.
