Dhanbad: Nearly five medicos sustained injuries in a clash that erupted between two groups of MBBS interns in a hostel at Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH).

As a result, the college management has constituted an inquiry committee to probe the incident, and ensured that strict action will be taken against the guilty based on the committee’s findings.

The incident took place on the night of April 15 inside the campus hostel, where tensions between two groups of interns, which had been brewing for several days, reportedly turned violent.

As per latest TOI media report, the injured students have been identified as currently undergoing an internship after completing their medical studies and are associated with hospital services.

Confirming the development, Principal Dr R K Mahto said, "Strict action will be taken against the guilty based on the committee’s findings. We have initiated an internal probe, and several students have already been questioned. The exact cause of the clash is yet to be ascertained."

According to sources, there had been ongoing tensions between the two groups for a few days, possibly due to past disputes. However, what exactly triggered the violence on the night of the incident is yet to be determined.

The college administration also held a meeting on Thursday, where it was unanimously decided to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. Authorities are also trying to determine the total number of students involved in the clash.
