Meanwhile, issuing an advisory, Karnataka Government has suggested that all social and cultural events, conferences, seminars, academic events, etc. in educational institutions may be postponed for two months, adds HT.

This comes after recently huge number of students and staffs belonging to Dharwad medical college were tested positive for the virus.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that SDM College of Medical Sciences in Karnataka's Dharwad had turned into a super spreader for COVID-19 as a total number of 281 students and faculty members were tested positive for the infection till Saturday.

Although there were initially reports of only 66 cases, the numbers increased rapidly when 116 students tested positive on Friday and then another 99 people were found to be positive on Saturday.

The students had attended a function held on November 17 in the college campus.

As per the latest media report by Hindustan Times, around 325 students belonging to Chamarajanagar Medical Sciences Institute were tested for COVID-19 and the results of seven among them have come to be positive. The reports of around 500 close contacts of those students have, however, come to be negative.

Tests were conducted on another 150 students as well and the tests results are yet to come.

The dean of the medical college, Dr. Sanjeev Reddy had also tested positive for COVID last week and he is currently in home isolation.

Coming forward, the district administration has made the screening regime stricter along the Kerala and Tamil Nadu borders and people are not being allowed to enter the state without RT-PCR negative reports.

Meanwhile, following the recent covid clusters, the Karnataka Government has issued an advisory and has suggested that all social and cultural events, conferences, seminars, academic events, etc. in educational institutions may be postponed for two months.

"All students in medical and paramedical and other such educational institutions should be screened daily for symptoms of Covid-19. And the symptomatic should be tested and treated as per the guidelines already issued," mentioned the Official statement.
