Dibrugarh: Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh, will celebrate its 75th anniversary with a special postage stamp in the near future.

In a letter to the Union Minister of State and Dibrugarh MP Rameshwar Teli, the Union Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnav provided this information.

Teli wrote to Vaishnav on April 1, 2022, with a proposal to issue a commemorative postage stamp to mark the 75th anniversary of the Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh, Assam.

The Sentinel reports that Vaishnav responded Teli through a letter, "Please refer to your D.O. letter dated 01.04.2022 regarding the issue of a Commemorative Postage Stamp on 75th Anniversary of Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh. It is to inform that the proposal for issue of the Commemorative Postage Stamp has been approved."

"It is a proud moment for AMCH and Dibrugarh. This is a great moment for the prestigious institution which has made many achievements in medical history," said Kakoti.

Assam Medical College (AMC) established on 3rd November of 1947 is the oldest medical college in Northeast India. Assam Medical College celebrated its Platinum Jubilee on November 3, 2021.

The college also tweeted "A commemorative postage stamp is approved by Govt of India,on the occasion of platinum jubilee of @AMCHDibrugarh"

Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh is one of the premier and oldest medical institutes of the NE region of India. British Philanthropist Sir John Berry White, a retired brigadier of British army and later the civil surgeon of the erstwhile Lakhimpur district in 1870, contributed his lifetime earning of Rupees Fifty Thousand (present day valuation is more than 50 million of rupees) to establish his brain child "Berry White Medical School" in 1900 AD.
