Sagar: In a case of ragging, a group of MBBS students studying at Bundelkhand Medical College (BMC) were beaten up by another group of students in the same college after they refused to bow their heads down.

An FIR was registered against the accused students by the Gopalganj Police Station.

According to a media report by zee news, the incident took took place on Tuesday when the first year MBBS students were coming out of their class. A section of students living at the hostel arrived there and asked the other students to not go to the OPD and to walk with their heads down. The altercations worsened and the hostel students started beating and harassing the students who had come out of their class, due to which a student was injured and another student's specs broke down. The students then filed a complaint with the Gopalganj police station.

The complainants also added to the police that the accused students had behaved in a similar manner earlier too, after which they had filed a complaint with the BMC management, but the latter did not take any action. They added that they had to take the help of the police due to inaction of the college authorities.

After the incident came to light, the media charge of Bundelkhand Medical College, Dr. Umesh Patel, expressed the stance of BMC in the evening.

He said that a confrontation took place amongst the students belonging to the same batch. And taking cognizance of the fact, a committee have been formed by the dean of BMC to investigate the incident, he added. He said that the students found guilty after the investigation by the committee would be strictly punished. However, he claimed that the matter could not be categorised as 'ragging' since the students belonged to the same batch.

The Bundelkhand Medical College is a full-fledged tertiary government medical college located in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh.
