This comes after recently news reports claimed that citing gross deficiencies, the Commission had turned down the proposal of setting up the medical college.
Recently, the Times of India had reported that citing gross deficiencies, the National Medical Commission (NMC) had allegedly said no to the proposal of setting up a 150-seat Government Medical College at Kothagudem.
The daily had mentioned that NMC had found 88.8% deficiency in faculty and a 69.7% deficiency in resident doctors. Further the college building had been found to be under construction and there were lack of facilities such as lecture theatres, library, laboratories, student hostels and staff quarters.
Apart from this, Laboratory facilities in anatomy and biochemistry departments were also found to be lacking along with basic furniture and other audio-visual equipment. Hostel facilities for students, residents, and nurses were also absent and the hospital only had 233 beds as against the requirement of 330 beds. The daily had mentioned that issuing the letter of disapproval, the Apex Medical Body had given the college time up to June 23 for rectifying the issues.
However, amid the reports claiming that the permission for the college was denied by NMC, the principal of the medical college, Dr. RL Lakshman Rao refuted such claims. Telangana Today adds that speaking to media, Dr. Rao informed that after submitting the application, a team of NMC had inspected the medical college back on January 31. Finding lapses during the inspection, NMC team had submitted a report.
The principal claimed that on the basis of the report, the college made arrangements including the recruitment of 54 faculty and 32 supporting staff. Besides, medical wards now have been filled with all the required facilities.
Further, complying with the NMC norms of having a 300-bedded medical facility a 100-bedded Maternal and Child Health Centre (MCH) at Ramavaram and 240-bedded teaching hospital in Kothagudem have now been made ready.
Expressing hope that the medical college will get recognition at the earliest, the Principal Dr. Rao informed the daily that the NMC team would visit the college once again for inspection.
