Kurnool: A second-year MBBS student of Kurnool Government Medical College was found unconscious in her hostel room recently after she allegedly attempted suicide by consuming pesticide. Her condition is currently stable but she is in under close medical observation.

The motive behind the student taking this extreme step is unknown, and an inquiry committee has been set up in this regard to look into the matter. Besides, a formal complaint has been also filed at the Three Town Police Station.

The incident took place on Saturday when the student from Anantapur reportedly consumed the pesticide when no one was around in her room. Her roommates, upon returning to the room, discovered her in an unconscious state and immediately alerted the college authorities.

Wasting no time, the management rushed her to KIMS Hospital, Kurnool for emergency treatment. After receiving proper treatment, the student is presently out of danger and is in stable condition. Her pulse and blood pressure are stable, but she remains under medical observation for the next 24 hours.

Commenting on the matter, Kurnool Government Medical College Principal Dr. Chitti Narasamma told The Hans India, "A committee has been formed to investigate the circumstances that led to the student’s extreme step. A complaint has also been made at the Three Town Police Station."

Addressing concerns about why she was taken to a private hospital instead of a government facility, the principal explained that "Due to the unavailability of hemofilter at the government hospital, she had to be shifted to KIMS Hospital for better medical care."

Following the incident, the college management informed her family members and an investigation in this regard is underway.
