Struggling to cope with OCD for 7 years, MBBS student attempts suicide
Siddipet: Struggling to cope with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) for 7 years, a first-year MBBS student of Surabhi Medical College attempted to commit suicide by jumping off the first floor of the college building. Due to the impact of the fall, the student suffered fractures on her leg but survived and is currently in stable condition.
It is reported she took the extreme step as she was struggling to cope with her OCD even with medications for the past 7 years that also affected her studies. Feeling anxious and depressed, she wrote a suicide note before attempting to jump from the building.

Her note mentioned ‘Sorry dad, mom, sis. I’m unable to bear obsessions while studying in a hotel. I want to study but I can’t study. Believed medicines could cure me but they didn’t. It’s been 7 years of stressing over due to OCD. Thanking you’ll for supporting and encouraging me at the hardest times.”
The incident took place on November 17 but was not revealed to anyone, as the student's parents requested the college management to keep the matter secret. On the day of the incident, the college authorities immediately informed her parents who rushed her to Hyderabad for further treatment, as per a Deccan Chronicle news report. She was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Hyderabad.
However, the matter came to light when the police received information about the student trying to end her life. On this, they reached the medical college and enquired about the incident. During the process, they interrogated the college authorities and the victim's parents regarding the suicide attempt.
Since the police are yet to determine the reason for her sudden step, ACP Madhu told Telangana Today, "We will take appropriate action after enquiry."
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition that causes people to have recurring thoughts and behaviours that they can't control. At least 60% of people will have some improvement with medications on their first try. Most people have some improvement, although fewer than 20% of those treated with medication alone will have a complete remission of symptoms.
