RG Kar Medical College nursing student attempts suicide
Kolkata: At a time when junior doctors are demanding justice for the PG trainee doctor who was allegedly brutally raped and murdered, a second-year nursing student of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital recently attempted suicide following a dispute with her roommate in the hostel.
According to the police, the student, a resident of West Bengal's Purulia district was found in a pool of blood with injury marks on her hands and was immediately hospitalised. She is currently being treated at the hospital's trauma care unit.
According to preliminary investigations, the alleged incident took place late on Saturday night following a quarrel over switching off the light, a senior police officer said.
However, as per a PTI news report, the student's condition came to light after other students on the campus rescued her when they found her in a pool of blood and immediately rushed her to the RG Kar Hospital's trauma unit.
This incident has sparked tension among students on the hospital campus amid threat culture allegations and the death of a lady doctor on August 9.
"The student had filed a complaint with the college authorities, but they blamed her, leading to her depression. She was later found in a pool of blood and was rescued by other students. Police are investigating the matter," said a senior police officer.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a first-year female MBBS student at King George's Medical University (KGMU) allegedly tried to end her life by hanging herself. The incident came to light when the 18-year-old girl was found hanging in an unconscious state in her room in the New UG Hostel building of KGMU.
