Lalitpur: Altogether 32 second-year MBBS students of Lalitpur Medical College, also known as Autonomous Government Medical College, Lalitpur, have reportedly been suspended after being found guilty of ragging first-year students.

Apart from the suspension, the college authorities have also imposed fines on those involved in the incident. According to a media report by Royal Bulletin, the junior students were allegedly subjected to both mental and physical harassment during the ragging.

The issue came to light after a formal complaint was lodged, following which the college administration initiated an inquiry. The matter created unrest on the campus and raised serious concerns about student safety.

In the complaint, the affected first-year students reported that they were intimidated during the ragging and were subjected to mental pressure if they protested.

Royal Bulletin news sources reported that the inquiry report revealed negligence on the part of the college administration while handling the situation. As a result, three staff members have been identified, and explanations have been sought from them for alleged negligence in preventing the incident.

The college administration said that strict action has been taken under the anti-ragging rules and warned that such behaviour will not be tolerated in the future.

The case is currently under investigation, and the authorities said that further action will be taken based on the final inquiry report.

Medical Dialogues had reported that a ragging complaint was reported at Madras Medical College, where a junior medical student accused some senior students of mentally and physically harassing him inside the men's hostel.

According to the complaint, the student was called to a hostel room along with 19 other juniors and was allegedly subjected to harassment. Following a preliminary inquiry, the college administration suspended six senior students and expelled them from the men’s hostel.
