Puducherry: Another Marijuana peddling case has come to light from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER). This time three persons have been caught comprising an intern doctor, a medical student and a former medical student from the institute in connection with the case.
All three accused were found to be engaged in an illegal drug peddling case that involved selling marijuana to students, juveniles and the public. They were caught red-handed after the police discovered 300 grams from the former medical student's house.
Therefore, they were arrested after a case was registered under section 8 (c) of the NDPS Act. The Act states that it is unlawful for anyone to cultivate any coca plant or gather any Portion of the coca plant, or cultivate the opium poppy or any cannabis plant or produce, manufacture, possess, sell, purchase, transport, warehouse, use, consume, import inter-State, export inter-State, import into India, export from India or tranship any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance.
