MBBS student tries to prevent eve-teasing at medical college; gets thrashed by goons
Amritsar: A fourth-year MBBS student of Government Medical College (GMC Amritsar) recently got brutally assaulted by a group of three men after he tried to prevent eve-teasing of girl students by them. The medico, who is reportedly a son of a senior police official; was beaten up by an iron rod and has sustained major injuries.
Based on the complaint filed by the victim medico that the goons had assaulted him for objecting to eve-teasing, brandished a revolver and threatened to shoot before fleeing the scene, the police have registered a case under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 25 of the Arms Act.
Narrating the whole incident which took place on February 19th around 10 PM, the MBBS student stated in his complaint that he, along with his friends; was standing outside the library when two youths passed objectionable remarks at the girl students. He and one of his friends then tried to stop them. Then, the miscreants came out of their car and assaulted them while using abusive language. They allegedly took out a pistol and threatened to shoot them before fleeing in their car.

"I was in the library and on hearing the girls' cry for help rushed to the spot. When I opposed the men, one of them pointed a revolver at me, abused me and hit me with an iron rod, before fleeing," the medico stated; quotes HT.
Following the incident, the MBBS student moved the police. Speaking to HT, Majitha SHO Singh informed, "A case has been registered against the two accused at Majitha police station under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 25 of the Arms Act. No CCTV cameras are installed near the college library, so we do not have any footage. The investigation is on."
Other Investigating officer informed Tribune that one of the car-borne youths who attacked the MBBS student has been identified. "He is son of a manager of a nationalised bank. He is absconding and efforts are on to nab him. His arrest would lead to the identification of his friend who was with him at the time of the incident," said the officer.
Meanwhile, GMC Amritsar principal Sujata Sharma has stated that the medical college administration has written to the manager of the security company to change the guards who were deployed near the spot at the time of the incident.
