NMC inspects new building of GMC Rajamahendravaram

Rajamahendravaram: The newly constructed Government Medical College in Andhra Pradesh's Rajamahendravaram is a step closer to starting their MBBS admission process as the National Medical Commission (NMC), completed its inspection of the building infrastructure last week. 

The information was given by Rajamahendravaram Medical College Principal Dr. A. Venkateswara Rao on Tuesday, May 30.

A three-member MCI team led by Dr. Anil Siva Shankar Rahul and consisting of Dr. Nibha Bhasi and Dr. Kapoor Chandra Meena inspected the infrastructure of the building and other facilities in the hospital last week. 

The principal said, "We are expecting a communication from the MCI within a week to offer MBBS from the academic year 2023-24. As many as 150 seats are available in the government college." 

In order to meet the requirement of the new medical college, the GGH Superintendent Dr. R. Ramesh told the Hindu that they are upgrading the hospital to a 350-bedded facility. However, he noted, "It will be gradually extended to 650 beds." 

The work on the new college buildings is being undertaken by AP Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation. 

The Medical Council of India has been replaced by the National Medical Commission (NMC) which is an Indian regulatory body consisting of 33 members regulating medical education and medical professionals. The body is responsible for granting medical qualifications, giving accreditation to medical schools, granting registration to medical practitioners, and monitoring medical practice and assessing the medical infrastructure in India. 

The Medical Dialogues team had a few months back reported about the ongoing construction work of Rajamahendravaram medical college and its preparation to start the admission process to their 150 MBBS seats from this 2023–24 academic year. The new college is in accordance with the AP government's promise to establish five medical colleges in each district.
