NMC nod to 150 MBBS seats at Machilipatnam Medical College
Amaravati: Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in Andhra Pradesh, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has given its nod for 150 MBBS seats at Government Medical College in Machilipatnam.
The apex medical education regulatory body NMC has permitted the State to commence the MBBS admission in 150 seats at the medical college from the academic year 2023-2024.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that medical colleges at Eluru, Vizianagaram, Rajamahendravaram, Nandyal and Machilipatnam districts of the State will commence the MBBS admission process in 150 MBBS seats each.

It was expected that the NMC would soon give its permission after Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences gave its permission to commence academic classes in the five medical colleges.
Earlier, addressing the matter, Health Minister Vidadala Rajani had mentioned that four out of the five medical colleges had been inspected by NMC team, which expressed its satisfaction.
Presently, NMC has given its nod for the Government Medical College at Nandyal, Eluru, Vizianagaram and Machilipatnam. Only the NMC approval for Rajamahendravaram medical college is pending which was earlier addressed by the Andhra Pradesh State Medical, Health and Family Welfare Minister Viddala Rajini.
With the state government already granting permission to commence classes in the Rajamahendravaram Medical College from this academic year, it is expected that NMC would nod for its clearance soon.
The Government is working on the process to ensure permission from the Apex medical commission for the remaining one medical colleges on a fast track basis.
Welcoming the NMC approval, Former minister and legislator Perni Venkatramaiah (Nani) told TOI, "Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will lay foundation stone for Machilipatnam port on May 22. Machilipatnam was major commercial centre during the British Raj. Our fortunes are getting changed under Jagan Mohan Reddy as now will have a medical college and a port. The works on the Rs.550 crore medical college are progressing and the entire infrastructure would be ready to launch classes by the 2023-24 academic year."
