New Delhi- The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a notice regarding the inauguration of Tobacco Cessation Centers in Medical Institutions.

As per the notice, Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0 is going to be launched on September 24, 2024, from 11 am to 12.30 pm. The Campaign will be launched by the Hon'ble Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

During the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0, the Hon'ble Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare will inaugurate the Tobacco Cessation Centers (TCCs) in all medical Institutions across India through a virtual platform. On this, operational guidelines for establishing TCCs in medical institutions have already been released on World No Tobacco Day 2024 on MoHFW's official website.

Along with this, a national webinar was also conducted by the MoHFW recently on 20th August 2024 to provide information to all the medical institutions regarding the establishment and management of TCCs.

Meanwhile, all medical institutions are directed to make arrangements for the establishment of TCCs following the Operational Guidelines such as displaying the inauguration plaque outside the TCC and facilitating the virtual inauguration, and the web link for joining the launch event will be shared in due course of time. Therefore, all medical colleges must comply with the guidelines and ensure that their Tobacco Cessation Centres are fully operational on time.

The establishment of Tobacco Cessation Centres (TCCs) in all medical colleges across India will be critical in advancing public health by assisting individuals in quitting tobacco use and thus reducing tobacco-related diseases.

On May 31, 2024, on World No Tobacco Day, the Operational Guidelines were launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in collaboration with the NMC.
