Ragging at Tanda Medical College: 12 MBBS students suspended, 2 first-year medicos punished for hiding information, all fined Rs 50k
Dharamsala: Altogether 14 MBBS students of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College and Hospital, Tanda have faced action for being involved in ragging.
According to Tribune, the college administration has suspended these students from the college and the hostel for a period of three months and six months respectively. Apart from this, these students have also been fined Rs 50,000 each.
Among these 14 MBBS students, 12 medicos are studying in the second-year MBBS course and 2 medicos are only in their first year. While the second-year MBBS students have been punished for ragging, two junior students of MBBS first-year have been punished for hiding the information from the college authorities.
Located at Tanda, in Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC) is a Government medical institute.

Confirming the punishment of these 14 medicos, the Principal of the medical college Dr. Bhanu Awasthi informed The Tribune that the college authorities during routine checking found that the first-year students had the notebooks of senior students. The seniors gave these notebooks to the first-year students to finish the homework.
Thereafter, for the purpose of inquiry, the matter was handed over to the ragging committee of the medical college. In its inquiry, the ragging committee said that the act of giving the notebooks to juniors to complete their homework was an act of ragging.
Consequently, the committee recommended punishment for these 12 second-year MBBS students and two first-year medicos for being involved in the matter.
The Principal of the medical college further informed the Daily that on the basis of the recommendation of the ragging committee, the college administration imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on each of the students. Apart from this, the guilty students were also suspended from the hostel for a period of six months and from the college for a period of three months.
