7 MBBS students of Kakatiya Medical College suspended for ragging junior
Warangal: Seven MBBS students of Kakatiya Medical College, who were earlier booked by the city police for allegedly ragging a junior student, have been suspended for three months.
As per the press release, the KMC Anti-Ragging Committee convened a meeting in light of the complaint. During this meeting, the committee facilitated a face-to-face inquiry, bringing together the aggrieved student and the seven students implicated in the alleged incident. Detailed statements from all parties involved were meticulously recorded.
Previously Medical Dialogues reported that the event happened late on September 14 when he was walking back to his dorm from the library. In his complaint, he said that the seniors wanted him to join but he declined since they were drunk and verbally hostile. He went back to his room, where the senior beat him severely. His classmates took him right away to MGM Hospital.
In light of the committee's findings, the institution has taken decisive action. The seven students now face suspension from academic activities for a period of three months. Furthermore, they have been expelled from the hostel for a duration of one year, as stipulated in the official communication.
According to a press communication from the college, the Anti-Ragging Committee which met recently called upon the affected student and all the seven students involved in the incident and thoroughly enquired about the incident. "All the students' statements were recorded. Seven students were suspended from academics for three months and expelled from the hostel for one year," the communication said, reports PTI.
The victim's complaint prompted the Matwada police to register a case against the third-year MBBS students. The charges against them include physical assault and harassment, with the police invoking sections 294(b), 323, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Section 4 (iii) of the Telangana Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1997.
