5 nursing students have been arrested based on the ragging complaint

Kottayam: In a horrific ragging incident recently surfaced from Kottayam, five third-year nursing students have been arrested for allegedly ragging first year students at the Government Nursing College. It has been alleged by the 1st year students who were subjected to ragging that they were allegedly forced to strip naked, dumbbells hung from private parts, stabbed with geometry box compasses and beaten bloody for three months.

The complaint in this regard led to the suspension of the accused students and their arrest under the Anti-Ragging Ac, as per NDTV. 

As per the PTI report, the police registered a case after three first-year students lodged a complaint alleging that the ragging had been going on for nearly three months at the institute.

According to the complaint, the ragging began last November.

The students alleged that they were forced to stand naked and were subjected to brutal acts using dumbbells meant for weightlifting.

Further allegations include injuries inflicted using compasses and similar objects followed by the application of lotion on the wounds.

According to the police, the first-year students were forced to stand naked while their seniors hung dumbbells from their private parts. The victims were also subjected to injuries using sharp objects, including a compass from a geometry box, reports NDTV

Additionally, they were forced to have cream applied to their faces, heads, and mouths.

The complaint also states that senior students regularly extorted money from juniors on Sundays to buy alcohol and frequently assaulted them.

Unable to bear the harassment any longer, three students finally lodged the complaint with the Kottayam Gandhinagar police.
