Telangana: The Telangana state government has finally given its permission to reopen all the government and private medical colleges across the state from February 1st.

The medical colleges in the state remained closed for almost 9 months during the time of lockdown due to the pandemic. While the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare gave permission to almost all the states to reopen the medical colleges from, December, last year, the State Government of Telangana decided to delay the reopening of colleges in the state.

After the government gave instructions to reopen the medical colleges and resume the classes, the Kaloji Narayana University of Health Sciences has also issued a notification regarding the same.
The notification stated, " KNR University of Health Sciences hereby informs all the Students and Principals of affiliated colleges that the Government of Telangana has accorded permission for re-opening of all Health Sciences Colleges from 1st February 2021 for Under Graduate courses by following necessary guidelines and due precautions in view of COVID pandemic."
The colleges are going to reopen in a phased manner. The guidelines confirmed that at the initial level, the classes of final year students will resume along with the classes of those medicos who will appear for their first-year exam.
According to the guidelines, "Colleges may plan to open the campuses to conduct classes in two shifts/by rotation of batches, with such activities where they can easily adhere to social distancing, use of face masks and other protective measures. This may include administrative offices, research laboratories and libraries etc.,"
The colleges have also been instructed to prepare details about opening the campus in a phased manner and to prepare a rooster of all departments and batches of students in different years of study. Teaching hours may also get extended so that the students in all the batches can be accommodated as per the requirement of the college. Theory lectures will also continue to be held online till the pandemic situation is improved.
Stating that the time-table and modalities regarding the exams will be reviewed once the institutions reopen, V Karunaker Reddy, vice-chancellor, KNRUHS told Times of India, "We have asked all colleges to prepare a plan for completion of clinical postings and practicals in a short period to facilitate the conduct of final year examinations as per the proposed schedule of National Medical Commission."
The chancellors of Medical Education will arrange a video conference with all the principles of government, private, and nursing colleges on January 31st. As per the recent media report by Hans India, the colleges will make arrangements and follow preventive measures as per the recommendations made during the meeting.
Previously Medical Dialogues team reported that despite the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) permitting to reopen of medical colleges from December 1 following the recommendations by the National Medical Commission (NMC), the State Government of Telangana Thursday decided to delay the reopening of colleges in the state. In view of this, KNRUHS, Warangal also directed all the medical colleges to delay the process of resuming the classes and to open the medical colleges only after the government issues orders with specific guidelines.
