Registration:

Registration of NBEMS trainees for FAT-2021 can only be done by their NBEMS accredited training institution, through the following weblink on NBEMS website: https://www.natboard.edu.in/fat/index.

Application for FAT 2021 can only be submitted online through National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences website www.natboard.edu.in. There is no other methodology for application submission. Application submitted through any other mode shall be summarily rejected. There is no requirement to submit the hard copy print out of the application form.

Copy of printed application form may be retained by the institutes for future reference.

Admit card release date:

Admit Cards for FAT 2021 Theory Examination shall be available to downloaded at NBEMS website from 12th February 2022 onwards.

The assessment scheme consists of Three Parts which has to be essentially completed by the trainees. The scheme includes:


PART – I

Conduct of Theory Examination

Candidate has to appear for Theory Exam and is held for One day.

PART – II

Work Place Based Clinical Assessment

After Theory Examination, Candidate has to appear for Clinical Assessment.

PART – III

Performance Counselling Session On The Theory Performance

Candidate has to appear for his/her Theory Exam Assessment Workshop.

It includes various formal and informal assessment procedures by which evaluation of student's learning, comprehension, and academic progress is done by the teachers/ faculty to improve student attainment.

FAT is integral part of the effective teaching. The goal of Formative Assessment is to collect information which can be used to improve the student learning process.

The nature of evaluation to be followed should be on Formative Norms ONLY as it shall aim to give feedback on teaching and learning and become an integral part of the effective teaching.

The end goal should be to collect information which can be used to improve the student learning process. The purpose of the exercise is to assist the NBEMS accredited hospitals/ institutions to develop in to a center of academic excellence. This would further add value to the services being rendered in these accredited hospitals/institutions.

It is essentially positive in intent, directed towards promoting learning; it is therefore part of teaching. Validity and usefulness are paramount in this exercise and should take precedence over concerns for reliability.

Benefits for the faculty: They can be able to determine what the students already know and to what extent. They can decide what minor modifications or major changes in training programme are to be introduced so that all trainees can succeed in upcoming assessments. They can create appropriate lessons and activities for groups of learners or individual students and also inform students about their current progress and guide them.

Benefits for students: They can be motivated to learn and take responsibility for their own learning. They can learn valuable lifelong skills such as self-evaluation, selfassessment, and goal setting and become more adept at self-assessment.

Appearance in minimum required numbers of Formative Assessment Tests/ Internal Appraisals is mandatory towards eligibility for appearing in DNB/DrNB/ FNB Final Examinations as per the below prescribed scheme:

The compulsory participations in FATs shall apply to the candidates, who join in or after July 2019 admission session.

A candidate enrolled with NBEMS as a DNB/DrNB trainees & fulfilling eligibility criteria as stated in the Information Bulletin may appear for the FAT Theory Examination.

NBEMS Accredited Institutions have been directed by the NBE to go through the eligibility criteria before registering their Trainees for the examination. Queries pertaining to eligibility and other issues will only be entertained if the information requested is not given in the bulletin of information or NBEMS website www.natboard.edu.in No Queries of the any representative will be entertained on telephone with regard to the eligibility and disclosure of the results.

The institute should ensure that all the information entered during the online submission of application form is correct and factual. Information provided by the institutes in the online application form shall be treated as correct.

NBEMS itself does not edit/modify/alter any information entered by the institutes at the time of online submission of application form under any circumstances. There is no provision of change in any information after conduct of examination and/or declaration of result. Such requests shall not be entertained.

Institutes are advised to ensure that no mandatory column in the online application form is left blank. In the event of rejection of the application form, no correspondence/request for re-consideration will be entertained.

NBEMS reserves the right to withdraw permission, if any, granted inadvertently to any trainee who is not eligible to appear in the FAT Theory Examination even though the admit card/roll number has been issued or name/roll number is displayed on NBEMS website.

Fees shall neither be carried forward to a future exam nor refunded under any circumstances on successful submission of application.

Trainee's eligibility is purely provisional & is subjected to the fulfilment of eligibility criteria as prescribed by National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences.

NBEMS reserves its absolute right to alter, amend, modify or apply any or some of the instructions/ guidelines contained in this information bulletin.

The existing schedule, pattern, policy and guidelines are for ready reference only but in no way, they are or are ought to be treated as representative or acknowledgment of fact that NBEMS is bound to follow the same in future.

In case of any ambiguity in interpretation of any of the instructions/terms/rules/criteria regarding the determination of eligibility/conduct of examinations/registration of candidates/information contained herein, the interpretation of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences shall be final and binding in nature.

Any exemption from FATs shall have to be informed by the accredited institute/hospital to NBEMS prior to the conduct of FAT with all relevant supporting documents. The exemption from FAT shall be decided by the NBEMS on merit of the case.

Request shall not be entertained for change in center of examination under any circumstances. Trainees and institutes are advised not to canvass for such representation.

Fee Structure

1. Examination Fee: The Fees for Formative Assessment Test 2021 is as follows:

Rs.6000/- per candidate (to be paid by Training Institutions only through NBEMS Online Portal for FAT2021)

*Excluding payment gateway charges, as may be applicable.

Applications forms once submitted cannot be withdrawn. Any claim for refund, adjustment or carrying forward of application fee will not be entertained after successful submission of application.

How to pay: The prescribed exam fee should be remitted through payment gateway provided using any of the following modes:

a. Credit Card/ Debit Card

b. Internet Baking

c. BHIM UPI

d. NEFT (For Non SBI Account Holders only)

e. SBI Branch Payment (For SBI Account Holders only)

Note: Payment made through any other mode/ to any other account of NBEMS (other than the specified account) shall not be accepted.

The fees for Formative Assessment has to be deposited by NBEMS accredited institution only and is not to be charged from the Trainees as it has already been submitted by them as a part of Annual Academic Fees to their institution.

Examination fees in respect of candidates who are absent or declared ineligible due to any reason will be forfeited. Institutions are advised to read the rule position carefully and satisfy the terms and conditions for fulfilment of eligibility criteria before proceeding for payment of fees.

Examination for NBEMS Trainees

Those who fail to appear in the Theory Examination shall not be allowed to appear in the Work Place Based Clinical Assessment.

Absenteeism from Work Place Based Clinical Assessment after appearing in the Theory Examination shall not be counted as an appearance in Formative Assessment Test.

Any exemption from FATs shall have to be informed by the accredited institute/hospital to NBEMS prior to the conduct of FAT with all relevant supporting documents. The exemption from FAT shall be decided by the NBEMS on merit of the case.

Part I: - Conduction of Theory Examination

ACTIVITY

DESCRIPTION

Clinical Examination (Case Preparation & Presentation)

Maximum 2 cases for each candidate (30 minutes of preparation & 30 minutes for presentation)

The examiner may allot the same case to two candidates for case preparation. However, the candidate shall have to present the case individually before the examiners.

In case of unavailability of patients for case presentation, Manikin or dummy or a healthy volunteer may be used for demonstration of clinical examination skills and for simulated cases.

Viva- Voice

Shall be conducted by all the Examiners together in a group

Investigation Techniques/ Investigation Interpretations/ Instrument handling /Ward Round/ Clinical Investigations/ Spots

Wherever required.

Assessment of Thesis Work

The Thesis work of the candidate shall be evaluated by the examiner on the following parameters:

 Part III: - Performance Counselling Session On the Theory Performance

The Accredited Hospital is required to organize a Workshop so that the performance of each Trainee is discussed and deliberated at length. During the course of this Workshop, Trainees who have performed well shall share their Learning, Training and Answering skills with other Trainees.

Head of Departments and Faculty Members shall also share their knowledge, and also the key words / skills Assessors look for, in each answer.

Such Workshops shall motivate Trainees, augment the DNB training being given by the Hospital, help in enhancing overall performance of the Trainees, so that they are able to plan & attempt the DNB Theory Examination in an effective manner.

The hospitals shall also carry out a thorough Review of the performance of each Trainee who appeared in the FAT. Such a review will certainly help in identifying the weaknesses / shortcomings and positive aspects of each Trainee.

Eligibility for Formative Assessment Test 2021

DNB/DrNB/FNB Trainees who are admitted in the following admission sessions are eligible to appear for Formative Assessment Test 2021:

Candidates who are scheduled to appear in upcoming DNB/DrNB/FNB Final Exit Examinations and do not fulfil the criteria on minimum appearance in FAT/ Internal Appraisals may also be registered by their training institute for FAT 2021.

2. Work place Based Clinical Assessment:

`a. The date, time and venue of Work Place Based Clinical Assessment shall be intimated to all trainees who have appeared in the Theory Examination through their registered email id.

b. The centre for Work Place Based Clinical Assessment shall be allotted at a centre which is nearest to his/her training Institute. NBEMS reserves its rights to allot any centre; the candidates shall make their own arrangement for travel. Change in centre of the Work Place Based Clinical Assessment is not permitted under any circumstances. Candidates are advised not to make any representations/not to canvass in this regard.

c. Any exemption from the Work Place Based Clinical Assessment shall have to be informed by the accredited institute/hospital to NBEMS prior to the conduct of examination with all relevant supporting documents. The exemption shall be decided by the NBEMS on merit of the case.

Admit card for Theory Examination:

a. The admit card of the Trainees shall be uploaded on the online Portal for Formative Assessment at National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences website by 12th February 2022.

b. The admit cards can be downloaded by the training institute of the Trainees only.

c. The training institute is required to take print out of the admit card(s) of their Trainee(s) from the website, paste the trainee(s) photograph at the designated place and attest the same.

d. The Trainee(S) shall appear at exam centre with one of the following original and valid/non-expired ID proof along with the admit card:

i. PAN Card

ii. Driving License

iii. Voter ID

iv. Passport

v. Aadhaar Card (with Photograph)

Admit Card for Work Place Based Clinical Assessment:

a. The admit card of the Trainees shall be intimate to all Trainees who have appeared in the Theory Examination through their registered email id.

b. Trainee is required to take print out of his/her admit card paste their photograph at the designated place and get it attested y the Head of Institute/Department.

c. The Trainee(s) shall appear at exam centre one of the following original and valid/non-expired ID proof along with the admit card:

Result for Formative Assessment 2021:

a. The result of Formative Assessment 2021shall be declared after that completion of the activity of Work Place Based Clinical Assessment.

b. The results of both Theory Examination and Work Place Based Clinical Assessment shall be declared together and not separately.

c. The result DNB Trainees shall be sent to the Head of Institute of their respective Training Institution.

d. The result shall also be sent to each Trainees individually also on their registered email id.

e. Subsequent to the declaration of result, evaluated Answer sheets of the Theory Examination will be sent to the Training institutions of the respective Trainees.

f. On receipt of the result and evaluated answer sheets, the institutions shall conduct Performance Counselling Sessions like Seminars/Group Discussions in each Specialty to appraise the trainees about their performance and help them to enhance their knowledge & skills, so that they are able to plan them to enhance their knowledge & skills, so that they are able to plan & attempt the DNB Theory Examination in an effective manner.
