Lucknow: A candidate who provided forged paperwork, including a fake mark sheet and allotment letter, was apprehended by the King George's Medical University (KGMU) NEET UG -2023 admissions team on Tuesday.

The candidate was caught red-handed by the team during the NEET UG 2023 Counselling session at King George’s Medical University, especially for the MBBS and BDS programmes.

It came to light that the candidate tried to gain an MBBS seat at KGMU by presenting fake documents to the council members. Claiming to have scored 681 out of 720 marks in the NEET UG 2023 exam, the candidate had applied for admission using an allotment letter and mark sheet.

However, during his counselling session, the members found that his presented academic papers were fake in a cross-check investigation. They found that the candidate had only scored 366 marks in the NEET UG 2023 exam.

As further suspicion grows, the members also checked the candidate's name on the NEET 2023 merit list and found that he had not been allotted a seat in any college.

In response, the members questioned the candidate about the authenticity of the degrees, to which the candidate was unable to provide convincing answers. As a result, the case was raised to the Director-General’s Office of Medical Education, and the student was later turned over to the police, TOI reports.

On August 8, the institution conducted the first round of UP NEET UG counselling for 2023. The next round is scheduled to start on August 16 and the merit list will be released on August 19. Students who did not receive a spot in the first round of registration are still eligible to participate in Round 2.
