NEET PG: 5,591 MS Surgery seats as per NMC seat matrix 2026-27, 676 in Karnataka, check complete breakdown
New Delhi: MS General Surgery has 5,591 seats available across medical colleges in India for the academic year 2026-27, according to the latest postgraduate medical seat matrix released by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
Among the states and Union Territories, Karnataka has the highest number of M.S. General Surgery seats with 676 seats, Maharashtra has 628 seats, and Tamil Nadu has 621 seats.
Medical Dialogues earlier reported that the NMC released a seat matrix on September 29 showing a total of 63,177 MD, MS, Diploma, DM and MCh medical seats for the academic year 2026-27. However, the NMC clarified that the latest seat matrix does not include seats related to applications received for an increase in the intake of existing PG courses or for the commencement of new PG courses for the academic year 2026-27.
According to the latest seat matrix, Uttar Pradesh has 558 M.S. General Surgery seats, Andhra Pradesh has 406 seats, Gujarat has 352 seats, Telangana has 328 seats, Rajasthan has 303 seats, Madhya Pradesh has 279 seats, West Bengal has 197 seats, Kerala has 154 seats, Bihar has 147 seats, Odisha has 135 seats, Delhi has 118 seats, Haryana has 97 seats, Puducherry has 88 seats, Punjab has 83 seats, Jammu and Kashmir has 82 seats and Assam has 81 seats.
The seat matrix in M.S. General Surgery further showed 63 seats in Chhattisgarh, 51 in Uttarakhand, 36 in Himachal Pradesh, 33 in Jharkhand, 29 in Manipur, 9 in Tripura, 4 in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, 2 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, 2 in Arunachal Pradesh and 2 in Mizoram, 15 seats in Goa, and 12 in Chandigarh.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya and Sikkim have no M.S. General Surgery seats listed in the matrix.
