7619 PG medical seats approved for 2025-26, total 57,503 seats available: NMC seat matrix

New Delhi: The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) approved a total of 7619 postgraduate medical seats during the academic year 2025-2026.

The details regarding the seats for postgraduate courses in medical colleges and institutes for the academic year 2025-2026 were shared by NMC MARB in a public notice dated 17.12.2025.

In the notice, MARB President Dr. M K Ramesh mentioned, "The number of seats available as on 08.12.2025 in various Post-Graduate (Broad Speciality) courses in Medical Colleges/Institutions after the inclusion of seats granted on or before 8.12.2025 under the purview of the National Medical Commission (NMC) for the Academic Year 2025-26 is attached for the information of all stakeholders."

MARB further added in the notice that "All Medical Colleges/Institutions are requested to verify and confirm the number of seats displayed against their respective institutions. In case of any discrepancy, the same must be brought to the notice of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), NMC along with supporting documents within 15 days from the date of this notice..."

It also clarified that failure to report any discrepancy within the stipulated time may affect the updation of student details on the NMC Admission Portal by the respective college/institution.

Referring to the MARB's notice, NMC Secretary Dr Raghav Langer wrote to the Dean/Principal of all medical colleges/Institutions & stakeholders on 18.12.2025, and mentioned, "Please find enclosed herewith Public Notice No. N-19011/04/2025 (e file no.- 8324710) dated 17-12-2025 issued by the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) of National Medical Commission (NMC) conveying Seats for Post-Graduate courses (Broad Speciality) in Medical Colleges/Institutions for the Academic Year (AY) 2025-26, for the information of all stakeholders. All the concerned Medical Institutions, Parents, Student and other stakeholders are requested to take note of the same."

According to the details shared by MARB, a total of 49884 PG medical seats were available during the academic year 2024-2025, the Commission has approved 7619 seats this year (2025-2026), and therefore, a total of 57503 PG medical seats are available in the country.

The data shared by the Commission revealed that 2 new seats have been granted in Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, 245 seats have been granted in MD Biochemistry, 373 seats have been granted in MD Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy, 150 seats have been granted in MD Emergency Medicine, 4 seats have been granted in MD Family Medicine, 105 seats have been granted in MD Forensic Medicine, 535 seats have been granted in MD General Medicine, 12 seats in MD Geriatrics, 13 seats in MD Hospital Administration, 31 seats have been granted in MD Immuno Haematology & Blood Transfusion, 7 seats have been granted in MD Laboratory Medicine, 16 seats have been granted in MD Nuclear Medicine, 8 seats have been granted in MD Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 5 seats have been granted in MD Ophthalmology, 4 seats in MD Palliative Medicine, 189 seats in MD Pharmacology, 13 seats in MD Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, 171 seats have been granted in MD Physiology, 265 seats have been granted in MD Psychiatry, 75 seats have been granted in MD Radiotherapy, 147 seats have been granted in MD Respiratory Medicine, 8 seats have been granted in MD Sports Medicine, 1 seat has been granted in MD Transfusion Medicine, 60 seats in MD Tuberculosis & Chest Diseases, 117 seats in MD Anatomy, 284 seats have been granted in MD Community Medicine, 222 seats have been granted in MD Microbiology, 557 seats in MD Paediatrics, 406 seats in MD Pathology, 468 seats have been granted in MD Radio Diagnosis, 53 seats in MD/MS Anatomy, 4 seats in MD/MS Ophthalmology, and 639 seats have been granted in MD-Anaesthesiology.

No seats have been granted in MD Bio-Physics, MD Tropical Medicine, MD Master of Public Health- Epidemiology, MD Aviation Medicine/Aerospace Medicine, MD Interventional Radiology, MD- IHTM/ITBT, MD Preventive Social Medicine.

Among the MS seats, NMC has granted 2 seats in MS Anatomy, 408 seats in MS ENT, 540 seats in MS General Surgery, 532 seats in MS Ob-Gyn, 361 seats in MS Ophthalmology, and 587 seats in MS Orthopaedics. However, the Commission has not granted any new seats in Post MBBS Diploma Courses in OBG-DGO, and MS Traumatology & Surgery.

The details revealed that no new seats were granted in Diploma courses in in Forensic Medicine/Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Marine Medicine, Anaesthesia, Child Health, Clinical Pathology, Community Medicine, Diabetology, Health Administration, Health Education, Hospital Administration, Immuno-Haematology and Blood Transfusion, Medicine Radiotherapy, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, oto-Rhino-Laryngology, Paediatrics, Public Health, Radiation Medicine, Radio-Diagnosis, Sports Medicine, Tuberculosis & Chest Diseases, Dermatology Venereology and Leprosy, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Orthopaedics, Psychological Medicine, DOMS, etc.
