NMC approves 83 PG medical Seats in 11 Specialties at Sri Venkateswara Medical College

Tirupati: Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in Andhra Pradesh, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has given its permission for 83 additional postgraduate medical seats in Sri Venkateswara Medical College (SVMC), Tirupati.

Confirming this, the Principal of the medical college, Dr PA Chandrasekharan has informed the Hans India that these additional postgraduate medical seats have been added in the eleven specialty and super-specialty departments.

As a result of the NMC nod, the college now has altogether 226 PG medical seats. Further the college has sent proposals for getting seven more seats in the Surgery department and if the the Commission approves the same, the PG seats will increase further and go up to 233.

Located in Tirupati, Sri Venkateswara Medical College was established back in the year 1960. It has altogether 240 undergraduate and 146 postgraduate medical seats.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the Central Government last year had given its nod for 630 additional PG medical seats at 11 medical colleges of Andhra Pradesh. The nod from Centre had come after the State Government had sought the nod for increasing altogether 688 PG medical seats.

Back then the Union Government had given its permission for increasing an additional 75 medical seats to SV Medical College, Tirupati.

As per the latest media report by The Hans India, now the apex medical education regulatory body NMC has given its permission for additional 83 PG medical seats to the medical college in 11 specialty and super specialty departments. 

The NMC nod came after the teams of the commission inspected the college and Ruia Hospital associated with it. After the inspection, the NMC teams were satisfied with the services and quality of education.

Vice-Principals of the college Dr Vasundhara Devi and Dr Venkateswarlu have hailed the Commission's nod for increasing the PG medical seats. While commenting on the matter, the Principal of the medical college Dr PA Chandrasekharan mentioned that for the first time in the history of the college, it has got permission for such a huge increase of seats at one go.
