Indira Gandhi Govt Medical College and Hospital gets permission for 10 more PG Medical Seats in 3 specialities
Nagpur: Bringing goods news to the postgraduate medical aspirants in Maharashtra, Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) has received permission for 10 additional PG medical seats in three specialties.
While the PG seats in Paediatrics have been increased from 6 to 13 seats, in case of Dermatology department the seats have been increased from 3 to 4 and in the Radiology department the seats have been increased from 6 to 8 seats. Therefore, the maximum number of seats i.e. 7 seats have been increased in the Paediatrics department of the institute.
All of these three departments fulfilled the requirements specified by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for getting permission for PG medical seats.
Among these, the PG seats in the Dermatology department were introduced in the institute only last year, along with the PG seats in the Psychiatry department.

As per the latest media report by The Hitavada, in case of the Paediatrics department, there is one Professor, two Associate Professors, and 5 Assistant Professors. Even though there were three Associate Professors in the past, one of them got transferred leaving the department with one vacant post. The process for filling up that vacant post is currently underway.
While commenting on the permission for 7 more PG seats, the HOD of Paediatics Department, Dr Chandrashekhar Bokde told the daily, “The department has three units that fulfill the criterion of National Medical Commission, required for 150 MBBS seats. With the addition of 50 more seats, now the department needs one complete unit. The process of raising one unit is underway. There are three 30-bed wards each plus Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) with 10 and 20 beds respectively.”
The Acting Dean of the Institute at IGGMCH, Dr Bhavna Sonawane had tried to increase the PG medical seats in the Radiology Department and after completing the inspection, NMC approved two more seats to the department. While for a long time, the department was running without MRI, now it has all the facilities for catering to the needs of the patients.
Only one seat has been increased in the Department of Dermatology Venereology and Leprosy (VDL), popularly known as ‘Skin’. Medical Dialogues had last year reported that NMC had given its nod for 3 PG medical seats at the Dermatology Department from the academic year 2022-2023.
The norms specify that for three PG seats in the Skin Department, one Professor, one Associate Professor, one Lecturer and one Senior Resident are necessary. Apart from fulfilling this condition, IGGMCH has an addition of three Junior Residents
While IGGMCH fulfilled these conditions, it also has three Junior Residents in the Department and now it has received the permission for one more PG medical seat in the department.
The daily adds that now people will also be able to avail the hair transplant facilities at the institute at affordable cost. Now the Department offers such facilities since the HoD Dr Mishra has done a fellowship in Hair Transplant.
