Mumbai: Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in Maharashtra, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has recently given permission to Osmanabad Government Medical College for 100 MBBS seats.

Approving permission to the medical college, NMC, the Apex medical commission issued the Letter of Permission to the medical college on Thursday, adds Indian Express.

Among the 100 MBBS seats, 15% seats are reserved for the All India Quota and 85% seats are State quota medical seats. All these seats would be filled by the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) examination. 

Medical Dialogues had last year reported the Maharashtra cabinet had decided to set up a government medical college and a 430-bed hospital in Marathwada's Osmanabad district. Although the formal announcement for the medical college was given back in 2018, the work commenced in 2021.

Recently, ahead of the NMC visit, at least 28 doctors from four medical colleges in Aurangabad, Solapur, Latur, and Ambajogai in Maharashtra had been sent to Osmanabad medical college to fulfill the requirement of adequate faculties.

As per the latest media report by Indian Express, recently the National Medical Commission (NMC) gave its nod for 100 MBBS seats in Government Medical College Osmanabad and issued the Letter of Permission on Thursday. This newly approved medical college is affiliated with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS).

Maharashtra currently has a total number of 62 medical colleges with an intake capacity of 9895 MBBS seats. Among these, 29 Government Medical Colleges in Maharashtra has 4825 MBBS seats, revealed the data presented by the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya back in July. With the NMC nod for GMC Osmanabad, another 100 MBBS seats would be added to the State's seat matrix.
