NMC nod to 62 more PG medical seats in Odisha GMCs
Odisha: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved a total of 62 PG medical seats in a total of 6 government medical colleges and hospitals in Odisha for the academic year 2025-26.
The six government medical colleges and hospitals include Burla-based Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Cuttack-based SCB Medical College, Bhubaneswar-based PGIMER and Capital Hospital, Baripada-based PRM Medical College, Balasore-based FM Medical College and Balangir-based Bhima Bhoi Medical College.
Out of these 62 PG seats, 15 seats have been approved in VIMSAR, 3 in SCB Medical College, 6 each in PGIMER and Capital Hospital, 20 in PRM Medical College, 8 in FM Medical College and 10 in Bhima Bhoi Medical College, reports TNIE.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has thanked Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda for approving 62 postgraduate seats in six government medical colleges. In a letter to the minister, Majhi said the approval is an important milestone in strengthening medical education and healthcare infrastructure in western Odisha,
Additionally, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his cabinet colleague Nadda, the Chief Minister, and the state's Health Minister for approving the PG medical seats. He said, "This visionary step will further strengthen Odisha's education and health infrastructure."
Meanwhile, the State Government is committed to ensuring complete compliance with the norms and standards laid down by the NMC and providing all necessary support to develop these institutions as leading centres of medical excellence.
The addition of PG courses will not only enhance the quality of medical teaching and learning but will also improve specialised healthcare delivery to the people of the region
