Singer Rajvir Jawanda Death case: HC seeks response from centre, state, NMC over alleged medical negligence

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has sought responses from the Central Government, the National Medical Commission (NMC), as well as the Governments of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh in respect to a public interest litigation filed in connection with the death of Punjab singer Rajvir Jawanda in a road accident.
Filed by Senior Advocate Navkiran Singh, the PIL had alleged that Jawanda did not receive timely medical treatment after the accident, which led to his death. According to the petition, the private hospital where the injured singer was initially taken failed to provide even basic first aid.
While hearing the PIL, the Punjab and Haryana High Court issued notices on Monday and sought responses from all concerned authorities.
UNI has reported that Advocate Singh has urged the court to establish a proper and uniform mechanism to ensure prompt and adequate medical care in private hospitals across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh in future emergency cases.
He further informed the court that the petition was initially moved before the Himachal Pradesh High Court, as it was not immediately clear that the accident had occurred in Pinjore.

"Once it was confirmed that the incident took place in Pinjore, I visited the spot with a journalist to assess the situation and obtained a copy of the Daily Diary Report (DDR)," he submitted before the Court.
Rajvir Jawanda was a 35-year-old popular Punjabi singer and actor. He met with an accident when he was traveling to Shimla on September 27. His motorcycle allegedly collided with a speeding truck after stray cattle suddenly appeared on the road. Even after being hospitalized for several days, Jawanda succumbed to his injuries on October 8 at Fortis Hospital, Mohali.
Senior advocate Navkiran Singh filed the PIL on behalf of Lawyers for Human Rights International. The plea alleged that Jawanda lost his life due to the failure to get timely first aid and medical attention.
It has been alleged in the PIL that after the accident, Jawanda was initially taken to Shori Hospital in Pinjore. However, the facility failed to administer proper treatment or even provide basic emergency aid.
Babushahi has reported that the plea further has cited a Daily Diary Report (DDR) registered by the Pinjore Police, which has reportedly revealed that the hospital refused to offer primary treatment to Jawanda. The PIL has contended that this initial negligence was the key factor that led to the injured singer's death on October 8 at a private hospital in Mohali, where he was later shifted for advanced treatment.
Apart from seeking justice for the late singer, the PIL has also called for systemic reforms to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The petitioner has urged the HC bench to issue directions to the government to set up strict regulations mandating that private hospitals cannot refuse emergency medical treatment or first aid to accident victims under any circumstances.
