NMC seat matrix 2026-27: 2,145 MD, MS, Diploma, DM, MCh seats in Kerala, 183 in MD Medicine
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has a total of 2,145 postgraduate and super-speciality medical seats for the academic year 2026-27, according to the latest seat matrix released by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The seat matrix includes postgraduate MD and MS courses, along with Doctorate of Medicine (DM), Master of Chirurgiae (MCh), and diploma courses across government and private medical colleges and deemed universities in the state.
As per the list, MD General Medicine has the highest number of seats at 183, followed by MD Anaesthesiology with 179 seats.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the NMC released a seat matrix showing a total of 63,177 MD, MS, Diploma, DM and MCh medical seats for the academic year 2026-27. However, the Apex Medical Commission has clarified that the seat matrix does not include seats related to applications received for an increase in the intake of existing PG courses or for the commencement of new PG courses for the academic year 2026-27.
Detailed course-wise breakdown of the seats
DM Courses
DM Cardiac Anaesthesia has 2 seats, while DM Cardiology has the highest number of seats among the DM courses listed, with 40 seats. DM Clinical Haematology and DM Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology have 3 and 2 seats, respectively. DM Critical Care Medicine has 4 seats, while DM Endocrinology has 5 seats.
The NMc seat matrix shows that 2 seats are available for each in DM Hepatology and DM Infectious Disease. DM Medical Gastroenterology has 20 seats, DM Medical Oncology has 14 seats, DM Neonatology has 8 seats, DM Nephrology and DM Neurology have 15 and 22 seats, respectively.
DM Paediatric Cardiology, DM Paediatric Nephrology and DM Paediatric Oncology have 2 seats each, while DM Paediatric Neurology has 4 seats. DM Onco-Pathology has 6 seats, and DM Pulmonary Medicine has 9 seats.
Diploma and MCh Courses
The matrix includes 3 seats in the Diploma in Clinical Pathology (D.C.P.).
Among the MCh courses, M.Ch. Neurosurgery and M.Ch. Urology have the highest number of seats at 22 each. M.Ch. Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery and M.Ch. Paediatric Surgery have 12 seats each.
There are 8 seats each in M.Ch. Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and M.Ch. Surgical Gastroenterology, while M.Ch. Surgical Oncology has 6 seats. M.Ch. Gynaecological Oncology, M.Ch. Head and Neck Surgery and M.Ch. Reproductive Medicine and Surgery have 4 seats each.
MD Courses
MD Paediatrics has 150 seats, MD Radio-Diagnosis/Radiology has 98 seats, MD Pathology has 96 seats, MD Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy/Dermatology has 79 seats, MD Psychiatry has 69 seats, while MD Community Medicine/Social & Preventive Medicine has 67 seats.
The matrix has 54 seats in MD Respiratory Medicine/Tuberculosis & Respiratory Diseases and 49 seats in MD Microbiology. MD Pharmacology has 43 seats, while MD Physiology has 38 seats. MD Anatomy has 35 seats, and MD Radiation Oncology/Radiotherapy has 33 seats.
MD Emergency Medicine has 32 seats, MD Biochemistry has 29 seats, MD Forensic Medicine and Toxicology/Forensic Medicine and MD Immuno Haematology and Blood Transfusion have 22 and 7 seats, respectively.
The matrix also includes 15 seats in MD Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, 5 seats in MD Family Medicine, 4 seats in MD Nuclear Medicine, 3 seats in MD Geriatrics and 2 seats in MD Palliative Medicine.
MS Courses
MS General Surgery has the highest number of seats, with 154 seats. MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology has 142 seats, while MS Orthopaedics has 125 seats. The matrix includes 89 seats in MS Ophthalmology and 74 seats in MS Otorhinolaryngology/ENT.
