Hyderabad: Following the High Court's directions for reallocating the MBBS/PG students who had to face cancellation of admission due to a surprise inspection by the National Medical Commission (NMC), the Apex Medical Body NMC has now sought an action taken report from the Government within one week.

In this regard, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) undergraduate section of NMC has already written to the Principal Secretary of the State Health Department, Sam Rizvi.

However, so far, the status of the reallocation of the MBBS/PG students have not been communicated to the Commission, MARB secretary informed the Hans India.

The crisis regarding the medical seats began after the National Medical Commission (NMC) cancelled MBBS and PG medical admission in three private medical colleges in Telangana following a surprise inspection. It resulted in a huge decrease in the total number of seats. In case of MNR Medical College and Hospital, both MBBS and PG admissions had been cancelled. NMC further cancelled PG medical seats in Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences. Apart from this, TRR Institute of Medical Sciences, Patancheru lost its letter of permission for the first renewal and second batch of admission.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that unsure about their future, recently around 48 such affected PG medical students belonging to MNR Medical College had approached a Division bench of Telangana High Court and sought a direction on the NMC for issuing guidelines to the State for reallocating the students to existing Government and Private Medical Colleges in the State within a specific and short time frame without affecting the Academic year of the Petitioners.

The students also questioned the delay on the part of the Telangana State and KNRUHS for reallocating the students. They claimed that the authorities were not taking the necessary steps to solve this issue even after 20 days have passed since the date of cancellation of the PG admissions in MNR College.

During the hearing of the case last month, the High Court bench had directed NMC to relocate those medicos to other medical colleges in Telangana within four weeks with the help of the State Government and the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS).

As per the latest media report by The Hans India, complying with the directions issued by the High Court, NMC has now sought an action taken report from the State within a week. Further, the Government has been directed for taking necessary action on a priority basis to reallocate the students.

The daily adds that even though the Government authorities had asked the students for attending the classes of current colleges and the students were attending the classes, their attendance was not being considered.

While commenting on the matter, the President of the Telangana Junior Doctors Association, Karthik Nagula pointed out how the stydents had to come out on the roads for getting the issue solves. Further mentioning about undue negligence by the State, he added, "The medical students have a right to get reallocated in other colleges under kaloji Narayan Rao University of Health Sciences at the earliest to prevent a year of break in studies for unknown reasons. We request the concerned authorities and the university to solve the issue before any mishap."

Previously, NMC had informed the Telangana High Court that the guidelines for reallocating the students had already been communicated to all the stakeholders on May 18, 2022.

At that time, NMC had informed that the students shall be reallocated on the basis of their merit and the availability of seats in the medical college where they are being reallocated.

The rules further specify that the total number of undergraduate seats must not exceed from 250 and the supernumerary seats can be created for one batch only.
