NMC to begin inspection at Five new medical colleges in Rajasthan

Jaipur: Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in Rajasthan, the State Government is trying to ensure that academic sessions in five new medical colleges in the State commence from 2023-2024.

The inspection from the National Medical Commission (NMC) team is proposed to be held soon at these institutes located in Bundi, Dausa, Karauli, Alwar and Hanumangarh.

Therefore, the Rajasthan Medical Education Society (RMES), Jaipur has written to the principals of these new medical colleges to stay prepared for the same.

Apart from these, work is in progress for the proposed new medical colleges in in Nagaur, Banswara, Karauli, Baran, Jhunjhunu and Sawai Madhopur, officials have informed TOI. The daily adds that the work is in progress for establishing nursing colleges in different districts of the State.

Medical Dialogues had recently reported that providing the data regarding the number of medical colleges and seats available in the States and UTs in India, the Union Minister of State for Health, Dr, Bharati Pravin Pawar had informed that Rajasthan has altogether 30 medical colleges with an intake capacity for 4405 MBBS seats.

While four new medical colleges in Sriganganagar, Chittorgarh, Sirohi and Dholpur commenced MBBS admission from the academic year 2022-2023, five new medical colleges are expected to join the State's seat matrix from 2023-2024 if NMC, the apex medical education regulatory body, gives its nod.

The NMC team will conduct an inspection at these medical college to ensure that they are functioning properly and they have adequate facilities including fully equipped laboratories, teaching faculty, non-teaching staff and other infrastructural facilities according to the norms.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, aleady RMES has alerted the heads of these five new medical colleges and advised them to stay prepared for the awaited NMC inspections. In its order, RMES mentioned, “The inspections are proposed for soon. In this regard, ensure the preparations according to the norms of NMC. In case, if any help and support regarding basis necessities, budget, equipment, resources, faculty and no faculty staff, inform the office.”

Speaking about this, the Principal of Alwar Medical College, Dr Lokendra Sharma told the daily, “Inspection of NMC is scheduled, we are taking measures accordingly as we are targeting for beginning the first academic session from next 2023-24.”

Medical Dialogues had last year reported that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had approved altogether 23 new medical colleges in Rajasthan under three phases of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for the "Establishment of new medical colleges attached with existing district/referral hospitals".

Under Phase I of the Scheme, seven medical colleges in Barmer, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Churu, Dungarpur, Pali, and Sikar were made functional. Apart from these, the Central Government has sanctioned 16 other medical colleges under phase II and phase III of the scheme. These medical colleges are located in Dholpur, Alwar, Baran, Bansawara, Chittorgarh, Jaisalmer, Karauli, Nagaur, Shri Ganganagar, Sirohi, Bundi, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, Hanumangarh, Jhunjhunu, and Dausa.
