Hyderabad: Taking note of the fact that a single nursing college had sent out two conflicting lists of students to appear in their first-year general midwifery nursing (GNM) degree course exams, the Telangana High Court has recently sought clarifications from the Nalgonda district medical and health officer regarding the matter.

Although the bench comprising of Justice B Vijaysen Reddy denied providing any interim relief to the students, it has directed the DMHO to give explanations regarding the discrepancies within a period of one week.

The High Court was considering a plea filed by around 60 students belonging to the Nalgonda-based Nursing College. In their petition, the students blamed the DMHO of Nalgonda for not accepting their first-year exam fee paid through their nursing college.

Filing the plea in the High Court, the students sought directions upon the authorities to issue hall tickets to them, so that they get to appear for their first-year examinations.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, even though the judge refused to grant any interim relief, the bench sought to know the facts from the counsel for the medical education and health department.

Responding to this, the counsel for the State informed the court that as per the official records, the correspondent of the college had sent a list containing the names of 60 students with exam fees and sought their approval.

"We accorded approval to that list in April itself," added the counsel.

He further pointed out that the matter got complicated when another person claimed to be running the same school and started sending a separate list seeking approval for the same.

After verifying both the lists, the judge noted that 15 students were in both lists and the second list had three names belonging to a neighbouring nursing college.

Meanwhile, filing a counter, the DMHO claimed that there were serious discrepancies in the second list.

At this outset, the judge clarified that there should only be one list of 60 approved candidates and asked DHMO the reasons for the discrepancies. Responding to this, the DHMO pointed out that as per the official records, the first person, who is the correspondent of the medical college is the one who is authorized for running the college. The DHMO further clarified in this context that is the official correspondent, by any arrangement, has allowed the second person to run the college, then that is an internal matter.
