Writing to the Principal Secretary to the State Higher Education department in this regard, the Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the State Health Department Shalini Pandit stated, “It is reiterated that it has been made mandatory by the Hon’ble Supreme Court and National Medical Council that all MBBS and BDS admissions are taken through a common Entrance Test called the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). In this regard, the guidelines for appearing in the NEET are issued by the National Board of Examinations."

"In order to become eligible in the NEET, the cut-off date for completing the internship is usually fixed to 31st March of the admission year. But, it is observed that when the final MBBS/BDS examination and publication of results are delayed, the students are not able to complete the one year internship before 31st March in the said year, for which they become ineligible to appear in the NEET and lose one year,” the letter further pointed out.
