Relief for NEET PG Candidates: NBE Extends Internship Deadline to June 30, 2023
New Delhi: Addressing the concerns of hundreds of medicos who were afraid of losing the opportunity to appear in NEET PG 2023 exam due to the deadline for completing MBBS Internship, the National Board of Examinations (NBE) has now extended the internship deadline to June 30, 2023.
While the rumours of NBE extending the deadline were spreading on the social media for last two days, the natboard has finally issued the official notice in this regard today.
Referring to the previous Internship Deadline, NBE mentioned in the notice dated 13.01.2023, "Pursuant to the recommendations of the National Medical Commission vide its letter no. NMC-23(1) (222)/2022/Med./PG dated 13.12.2022 and subsequent approval of the MoHFW, Govt. of India vide its letter No. V.11025/03/2021 – MEP {FTS. 8090901} dated 22.12.2022 and V.11025/03/2021 – MEP {FTS. 8090901} dated 06.01.2023, the cut-off date for completion of internship towards eligibility for NEETPG 2023 was kept as 31st March 2023."
Informing about the decision of the Union Health Ministry to extend the deadline, NBE added, "The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Govt. of India vide its email dated 13.01.2023 has revised the cut-off date for completion of internship for the purpose of eligibility for NEET-PG 2023 to 30th June 2023."
"The cut-off date for completion of internship as mentioned under “important dates” and in the clause 4.1, 4.3, 4.10 & 13.2 of the information bulletin for NEET-PG 2023 should therefore be read accordingly. Rest of the terms and conditions as detailed in the bulletin shall remain unchanged," stated the notice.
"The corresponding changes in the application form for NEET-PG 2023 shall be reflected shortly," it added.
However, NBE has kept other details including the date of exam and the deadline for submitting the application same as before. The exam shall be conducted on March 5, 2023 and the candidates can submit the applications until January 27, 2023 (Till 11:55 PM).
The NBE notice has come as a major relief for hundreds of medicos who were anticipating year loss due to not being eligible to appear in the NEET PG 2023.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in Gujarat alone altogether 850 MBBS students belonging to five Gujarat based medical colleges might not be able to appear in NEET PG 2023 because they will fulfill the criteria for Internship Deadline only between April 10 and April 30. In fact, doctors have claimed that more than 75% medical students from 18 States are ineligible to appear for the PG medical entrance examination.
Recently, referring to the problems faced by the medicos, FORDA had written to the Union Health Ministry and mentioned in the letter, "...this unfortunate decision has rendered a majority of current interns' across the country ineligible, thereby wiping out compensation and leaving a multitude of others in a state of uncertainty. This is especially devastating for interns in states such as Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and many others, who have been altogether disqualified under this new rule as most of the states currently have interns who will attain their completion after the aforementioned date. Such a travesty is unprecedented and has never occurred in the past."
IMA JDN had also submitted a letter to Dr Suresh Chandra Sharma, Chairman, National Medical Commission (NMC) requesting him to postponed the eligibility criteria from 31st March 2023 to 30th June 2023. Recently IMA also wrote to the NBE and demanded an immediate meeting to discuss the concerns of the NEET PG candidates.
Amid the protests by doctors, NMC has reportedly assured a leading daily that they would not take any decision that might prove to be detrimental to the future of MBBS Students.
Meanwhile, recently FORDA claimed in a Tweet that eligibility date has been extended and the official notification from National Board of Examinations (NBE), which conducts the examination, would be released very soon.
"Breaking news for all #NEETPG2023 aspirants! Acc to our sources, eligibility date has been extended. Keep an eye out for official notice-expected very soon," read the Tweet by FORDA on Wednesday.
