Amid Protests from Doctors, NMC may reconsider Internship Deadline for NEET PG 2023
New Delhi: Amid the objections from doctors regarding the MBBS Internship deadline for appearing in NEET PG 2023, the National Medical Commission (NMC) is reportedly considering the matter.
In this regard, a senior official from NMC, the apex medical education regulatory body in India, has informed The Hindu that they would not take any decision that might prove to be detrimental to the future of MBBS Students.
National Board of examinations (NBE) announced that NEET PG 2023 will be held on 5th March 2023. The result will be declared By 31st March 2023. As per the eligibility criteria announced by NBE, the NEET PG 2023 candidates must complete their mandatory one-year MBBS internship on or before March 31.
This has landed hundreds of candidates at a tough spot since they might lose one whole year since they do not fulfill the eligibility criteria to appear in the entrance examination.

Medical Dialogues recently reported that altogether 850 MBBS students belonging to five Gujarat based medical colleges might not be able to appear in NEET PG 2023 because they will fulfill the criteria for Internship Deadline only between April 10 and April 30.
Recently writing to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the doctors under the Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) have raised this issue. They have mentioned in the letter, "The bulletin, released on (07/01/2023), sets the last date of Internship completion as March 31, 2023, a decision that has far-reaching consequences and has left many students facing a bleak future."
"...this unfortunate decision has rendered a majority of current interns' across the country ineligible, thereby wiping out compensation and leaving a multitude of others in a state of uncertainty. This is especially devastating for interns in states such as Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and many others, who have been altogether disqualified under this new rule as most of the states currently have interns who will attain their completion after the aforementioned date. Such a travesty is unprecedented and has never occurred in the past," the letter further added.
"The recent formation of a new board of examinations was intended to bring about improvements and prevent such mishaps, but it seems we are still confronted with the same issues," it mentioned.
Indian Medical Association Junior Doctors' Network (IMA JDN) has has submitted a letter to Dr Suresh Chandra Sharma, Chairman, National Medical Commission (NMC) requesting him to postponed the eligibility criteria from 31st March 2023 to 30th June 2023.
As per the latest media report by The Hindu, assuring to look into the matter, a senior official from NMC said, “We will not take any step which is detrimental to the future of the MBBS students.”
"Once they indicate a change we will re-issue the NEET-PG bulletin,” a senior official from the National Board of Examinations (NBE) said.
