Relief to Medical Aspirant: HC directs DME to consider her under MBC category
Madurai: Providing relief to a medical aspirant, the Madras High Court has recently directed the Director of Medical Education and the Selection Committee for considering her as an aspirant belonging to the Most Backward Class Category in the MBBS/BDS counselling process.
The student had approached the High Court after her application seeking the community certificate was rejected on the ground that her brother had studied under the General Category.
Quashing the order of the concerned authorities, the HC bench comprising of Justices Paresh Upadhyay and Krishnan Ramasamy opined that the candidate was entitled to get the community certificate under the MBC community.

As per the latest media report by The Hindu, the candidate, hailing from Dindigul district submitted before the court that even though her father belonged to a community under the general category, her mother was from a community under the MBC category.
However, when the candidate approached the authority and requested for a community certificate as per her mother's community, it was denied on the ground that her brother had studied had pursued his education under the General Category.
Taking note of the submissions made by the aspirant, the HC bench quashed the said order of the authorities denying her the certificate, and issued direction to the Tahsildar of Dindigul West Taluk for issuing the Community Certificate in favour of the petitioner.
Apart from observing that the candidate should get the community certificate belonging to the MBC category, the bench also directed the DME and the Selection Committee for considering the aspirant under the MBC category during the counselling process for MBBS/BDS admission.
