Telangana gets NMC nod for 60 DM, MCh seats for 2025-26

Telangana: Telangana has recently received approval for 60 postgraduate super-speciality seats in government and private medical colleges for the academic year 2025-26.

This was communicated through a public notice issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC) on February 20.

The Commission said these approvals include new and increased admissions to DM and MCh courses and will be treated as Letters of Permission for counselling.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted an additional 540 seats to 89 medical colleges across the country after considering applications for new and increased PG Super-Specialty courses for the academic year 2025-26.

Speciality-wise, the highest number of approvals was seen in DM Cardiology with 64 seats, followed by M.Ch Urology with 48 seats, M.Ch Surgical Oncology with 40 seats, and M.Ch Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery with 39 seats.

In Telangana, Of the government institutions, a total of 38 seats were cleared. Of these, Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, received seven seats, including four DM Medical Oncology and three M.Ch Surgical Oncology seats. Gandhi Medical College, Secunderabad, received three DM Critical Care Medicine seats.

Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal had 10 seats across various disciplines, including DM Cardiology (2), M.Ch Cardio Thoracic & Vascular Surgery (2), M.Ch Urology (2), M.Ch Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (2) and M.Ch Paediatric Surgery (2).

However, among government colleges, the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad, secured the highest number of seats, with 16. These include M.Ch Surgical Gastroenterology (4), M.Ch Vascular Surgery (4), M.Ch Surgical Oncology (4), and DM Oncopathology (4).

Meanwhile, in the private sector, R.V.M. Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Siddipet, was granted 22 seats, making it the largest beneficiary in the state. These approvals include M.Ch Surgical Oncology (2), M.Ch Surgical Gastroenterology (2), M.Ch Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (2), M.Ch Neurosurgery (2), M.Ch Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (2), DM Medical Oncology (2), DM Neonatology (2), DM Neurology (2), DM Medical Gastroenterology (4) and DM Cardiology (4).
