Chemist Killed in Reactor Explosion at Telangana Pharma Unit, Probe Underway

New Delhi: A 35-year-old chemist died after a fire broke out following a reactor explosion at a pharmaceutical manufacturing unit in Telangana's Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district while chemical drums were being loaded during routine operations.
The incident occurred at the VJ Sai Pharma facility in Dothigudem village, where a sudden chemical reaction triggered an explosion, leading to fatal burn injuries.
The deceased was identified as Dhar Pawan, who was working as a chemist at the plant. According to preliminary reports, the accident happened when chemical drums were being transferred into a reactor as part of the production process. During the handling, a chemical reaction reportedly caused an explosion inside one of the drums, which quickly led to a fire inside the unit.
Pawan was caught in the flames and suffered severe burn injuries. Despite emergency response efforts, he succumbed to his injuries, highlighting the serious occupational hazards associated with chemical manufacturing and pharmaceutical production environments.
Following the incident, police and fire department teams rushed to the site to control the situation and begin rescue and investigation operations. Authorities have launched a probe to determine the exact cause of the explosion and assess whether safety protocols and handling procedures were properly followed at the facility, reports India Today.
