Supreme Court to hear NEET PG 2022 deferment plea on May 13

New Delhi: The Apex Court has given its nod for considering a plea seeking postponement of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2022 examination on Tuesday.

Several doctors filed the plea before the top court bench comprising of Justices DY Chandrachud and PS Narasimha, which is likely to hear the plea on May 13.

Referring to the clash of schedule between the date for NEET PG 2022, i.e. on May 21 and the ongoing counselling for NEET PG 2021, the doctors have demanded to quash the NBE notification dated February 4, 2022 which was about holding NEET PG 2022. They have prayed for notification of a fresh date after 8 weeks so that the NEET PG 2021 counselling gets completed by that time.

The medical fraternity has been vocal for the postponement of NEET-PG 2022 examination for long. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that All India Medical Students' Association(AIMSA) and Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) had supported the demands of the aspirants. While FAIMA had approached the Union Health Ministry in this regard, AIMSA had taken up the matter to the Supreme Court and sought deferment of the postgraduate entrance examination.

As per the latest media report by Live Law, now a group of doctors have approached the Supreme Court with the similar demands for postponement. Referring to the schedule of counselling for NEET PG 2021, the doctors in the plea have demanded a fair chance for participation in the 2022 exam and contended that the candidates should not be made to suffer.

"Some of the petitioners and aspirants are the candidates who have appeared in NET PG 2021 and are participants in ongoing counselling process which is unlikely to get concluded by 9.5.2022 considering the roller-coster ride which they have been subjected to since July 2021. The petitioners and other thousands of aspirants are becoming victim of the system and are made to suffer for no fault of their own," stated the plea filed through Advocate Ashutosh Dubey and Abhishekh Chauhan.

It was further argued by the doctors that they could not be deprived of even filling up the forms for NEET PG 2022, as the last date ended on March 25. On the other hands, the petitioners were participating in the Mop-Up round of NEET PG 2021 counselling and they did not fill up the form with the hope that they would get the seat after cancellation of AIQ Mop-up on 31.03.2022.
