New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is waiting for the report of a High-Powered Expert Committee, formed on the directions of the Supreme Court, on the potential changes in the exam pattern of the National Eligibility-Entrance Test (NEET) 2025 exam.

Activist Dr. Vivek Pandey had filed a Right to Information (RTI) application seeking the minutes of the meetings regarding any potential changes in the NEET 2025 exam pattern. "Please provide the details of minutes of meeting held in month on July & August 2024 regarding the NEET 2024 & NEET 2025 Exam," Dr. Pandey mentioned in the RTI filed before the NMC.

In response, the CPIO informed that "The information sought is not available in the form you desire. Hence, this information could not be furnished to you." Following this, Dr. Pandey filed a first appeal seeking similar information.

Responding to this, NTA informed that the information sought "is not available and hence not furnished". Further it added that, "on directions of Honorable Supreme Court of India the Government has constituted a High Powered expert committee whose report is still awaited."

When asked about the issue, Dr. Pandey told Medical Dialogues, "If the Government is introducing any changes then the students should be informed now so that they could prepare for the same. It would be injustice with the students if the are informed about the possible changes at the time of releasing the form."

This RTI inquiry has highlighted the concerns among the aspirants about the possible changes in the NEET UG exam pattern that could affect millions of students. However, as per the response, any such potential changes would only be introduced based on the findings of the Expert Committee.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that amid the allegations of irregularities in the conduct of the NEET-UG exam, the Union Government had set up an Expert Committee on June 22 to examine the measures to ensure that the exam process is robust. While holding that there was no systemic breach in the NEET-UG 2024 exam, the Supreme Court had also issued some directions to the Committee and asked it to submit its findings by September 30, 2024.

However, on September 24, the Union Government sought a three-week extension until October 21, for the Committee to finalise and submit its report. Recently, the Centre informed the Apex Court that the high-powered committee, which had the responsibility of probing the alleged irregularities in the NEET UG 2024 exam has finalized its report and recommendations and would submit the same to the Apex Court soon.
