15 percent Stipend Hike Announced for MBBS Interns, PG medical, MDS, Super-Speciality Doctors in Telangana

Hyderabad: In a major relief to the MBBS interns and doctors pursuing post-graduate and super-speciality courses in medicine and dentistry in government institutes across Telangana, the State Government has announced a 15 percent stipend hike.

"Government after careful examinatlon of the matter, hereby accord sanctlon for enhancement of stipend by 15% w.e.f. 01.01.2025 to the Interness of MBBS/BDS, Post Graudate (Degree & Diploma), PG Dental, Super Speclalty and honourorlum to Senlor Rosldents..." it further added.

As per the Government Order, the monthly stipend for the house surgeons (medical and dental) has been increased from Rs 25,906 to Rs 29,792. 

For the students pursuing postgraduate degree courses, the stipend has been increased from Rs 58,289 to Rs 67,032 in the first year, from Rs 61,528 to Rs 70,757 in the second year, and from Rs 64,767 to Rs 74,482 for the third year.

The State has increased the stipend from Rs 58,289 to Rs 67,032 for the first year PG Diploma students, from Rs 61,528 to Rs 70,757 for the second year PG Diploma students.

The stipend for the senior residents has also been increased. Due to the Government Order, the first year Super Speciality students will now get Rs 1,06,461 instead of Rs 92,575. For the second year SS students, the stipend has been increased from Rs 97,204 to Rs 1,11,785, and for the third year super speciality students, the stipend has been increased from Rs 1,01,829 to Rs 1,17,103 per month.

Further, the State has increased the stipend for first year MDS students from Rs 58,289 to Rs 67,032 per month, for second year MDS students from Rs 61,528 to Rs 70,757, and for the third year MDS students the stipend has been increased from Rs 64,767 to Rs 74,482 per month.

After the new Government order, the Senior Residents will get Rs 1,06,461 as honorarium instead of Rs 92,575, which they used to get earlier.


After the Government Order was issued, the junior and senior resident doctors decided to call off their strike. Expressing gratiutude to the Chief Minister Sri Revanth Reddy Garu, Health Minister Sri Damodhar Rajanarasimha Garu and the Government of Telangana for their "proactive and positive response to the concerns raised by junior doctors", the T-JUDA announced its decision to call off their proporsed strike.

"All medical, academic, and hospital services across government medical colleges and hospitals in Telangana will resume with immediate effect and continue as usual," T-JUDA mentioned in its release.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the junior doctors in Telangana had decided to initiate an indefinite strike from June 30 onwards over their pending demands for a stipend hike, timely release of stipends, publication of annual faculty recruitment calendar, timely grant of scholarships, and fee reimbursement

It was decided that all undergraduates, postgraduates, house surgeons, and senior residents would participate in the strike until their demands were fully met.

Now, the junior doctors have decided to resume all medical, hospital, and academic services across government colleges with immediate effect after the Government announced to fulfill the demands of these protesting doctors.

Issuing an order on June 29, the Government announced a 15 percent stipend hike for house surgeons and doctors pursuing post-graduation and super-speciality courses in medicine and dentistry.

Apart from announcing a stipend hike, the State has also decided to extend the engagement of 16,448 existing staff under the Director of Medical Education (DME) for another year on contract, outsourcing, or honorarium basis, until permanent appointments are made.

"...Government hereby accord permission for engaging sixteen thousand four hundred and forty-eight (16,448) various categories of services, i.e., four thousand seven hundred and seventy-two (4,772) contract services, eight thousand six hundred and fifteen (8,615) outsourcing services, three thousand and fifty-six (3,056) honorarium services, as shown in the Annexure-I, appended to this order and five (5) services on MTS basis, as shown in the Annexure-II, appended to this order, to work under the administrative control of Director of Medical Education, Hyderabad, for a further period of one (01) year, i.e., from 01.04.2025 to 31.03.2026 or till the regular posts are filled-up or till the actual need ceases, whichever is earlier..." mentioned the Government Order dated 29.06.2025.

After the Government's announcement, T-JUDA issued a Press Release today and pointed out how the Government has addressed all the key concerns raised by the association.

According to the association, the Government agreed to infrastructure and facility improvements across all government medical colleges, with the MCMC committee and agreeing to take student representatives into the committee for implementation.

Further, the government has also agreed to increase the stipend for junior doctors, issue Budget release order for the regularisation of stipends extension of contracts for Senior Residents and extend the tenure for Government Contract Assistant Professors, pointed out the association.

"These developments are a testament to the government's commitment to strengthening healthcare and supporting the medical fraternity in Telangana," T-JUDA mentioned in the release.

"In light of these assurances and resolutions, the strike that was scheduled to commence on 30th June has been officially withdrawn," it added.

Telangana Senior Resident Doctors Association (T-SRDA) has also expressed its gratitude to the Chief Minister and Health Minister for their timely intervention and consideration of the long-standing issues faced by Senior Resident Doctors across the State.

"The official release of the Stipend Extension G.O. and the assurance towards clearance of pending stipends for the last three months, as well as the official release of the long-due stipend hike G.O reflect the government's deep commitment to the welfare of the healthcare professionals and its respect for our continuous service in the medical and academic field," the association mentioned in its release.

T-SRDA mentioned, "This act of responsiveness has brought immense relief to the Senior Residents, who were facing financial constraints and emotional distress due to administrative delays. We sincerely thank the Hon'ble leadership for recognizing our concerns and providing a swift and honorable resolution to our demands."

Announcing its decision to call off the strike, the association further added, "As a result of this positive development, the proposed strike by the Senior Residents has been called off. We assure our continued commitment to patient care and academic duties and look forward to a productive partnership with the government in strengthening the public healthcare system of Telangana."
