Nizamabad: In an unfortunate incident, a second-year PG student of Government Medical College (GGH) Nizamabad was found dead in her hostel room on Friday morning. There is no explanation as yet for her death.  

The deceased has been identified as Dr. Swetha aged 27 who was a student at the gynaecology department of the college and a resident of Karimnagar.

On Thursday night, Dr. Swetha was on duty till 12 am in the gynaecology department. She then reached her hostel room and went to bed last night. On Friday morning her roommate after completing duty reached the room and found that Swetha was in an unconscious condition and was unresponsive. Immediately, her roommate called the college authorities and the police were contacted.

College principal Dr. Prathimaraj said "Swetha's parents have been informed regarding the matter."

"At 6 am, other doctors tried to wake up Swetha, but she did not respond. Then, the doctors checked her pulse and declared that she was dead," said Nizamabad Town-I police inspector D Vijay told TOI.

According to TNEI sources, her roommate was the first to witness the situation and the sole eye-witness to this case.

Doctors said that she died due to post-COVID-19 symptoms as she was hit by the virus twice in the past year though it is not certain yet. To find the exact cause of her death, her body has been sent for postmortem.

A case has been registered under Section 174 of Cr. P.C by the police and an investigation is underway. 

Her sudden death shocked many colleagues and professors at the college and they condoled her death. Her colleague doctors said that she was a very cheerful person who used to always smile and help others when needed. Swetha's brother is an Assistant Commandant in Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Jharkhand.

Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 ("the Code") provides for the preparation of an inquest report in case a person has committed suicide, or has been murdered or killed by an animal, machinery, or in an accident, or has died under suspicious circumstances.
