62-year-old Radiologist found dead

Hubbali: In an unfortunate incident, a radiologist working at a private hospital in Talikote town allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling in his room on Monday. 

The deceased was a 62-year-old senior doctor associated with Shri Sai Hospital. The reason behind the doctor's death is unknown since no suicide note was left behind to shed light on the circumstances he was experiencing.

According to hospital sources, the doctor had arrived in the morning and attended to several outpatients before going to his room for rest. The staff started to feel concerned after he had not left his room for a long time. On checking the other section of his room, they discovered that the doctor had died by suicide. His colleagues immediately alerted the police.

"He went to his room but did not return for a long time. Our staff went to the other side of the room and saw that he had died by suicide. Other doctors and staff informed the police immediately," the hospital staff told TOI. 

After this, the police reached the spot and conducted a preliminary investigation, registering a case and launching an investigation in this regard. The exact cause of the suspected suicide remains unclear.

Medical Dialogues had reported in 2024 that among the 122 medical students who committed suicide in the last five years i.e. between 2018 and 2022, altogether 64 students were pursuing MBBS courses and 58 were doctors pursuing various postgraduate medical courses, revealed the National Medical Commission (NMC) while responding to a Right to Information (RTI) application.

State-wise, most of the MBBS students who committed suicide in these last five years belonged to Kerala (9 students) and Tamil Nadu (8 students). On the other hand, the highest number of doctors who committed suicide while pursuing PG medical courses belonged to Karnataka and Maharashtra. In these two states, 11 PG medicos each committed suicide during their course of study.
