Mumbai: After juggling her film career and medical education for over 6 years, popular Tamil actor Sreeleela has now officially become a doctor after completing her MBBS and graduating from DY Patil University on February 10, 2026.
Photos and videos from the convocation have rapidly spread online, showing her in academic dress as she receives her MBBS degree, and prompting social media users to describe her as “a beauty with brains.”
Sreeleela’s recent professional leap resonates with the medical fraternity and her fans alike. Her journey is an inspiration for many as she completed a rigorous and time-demanding MBBS course while managing a full-time film career. The visuals from the ceremony show her beaming with joy as the batch is declared “officially doctors from the class of 2020.”
Sreeleela is an American-born actress of Indian origin, primarily working in Telugu and Kannada cinema. Born on June 14, 2001, in Detroit, Michigan, USA, she was raised in Bangalore, India. From a young age, Sreeleela trained in Bharatanatyam dance, showcasing her dedication to both arts and academics. Her medical background was influenced by her mother, Dr Swarnalatha, a practising obstetrician and gynaecologist, and this appears to have shaped Sreeleela’s commitment to complete her MBBS degree.
Sreeleela began her acting journey in 2017 with the Telugu film Chitrangada, where she played the younger version of Sindhu Tolani’s character. Her debut as a lead actor came with the 2019 Kannada film Kiss, followed by Bharaate the same year. She entered Telugu cinema as a lead with Pelli SandaD in 2021 and has since featured in films including Dhamaka, Bhagavanth Kesari, and Guntur Kaaram, sharing screen space with actors such as Ravi Teja, Balakrishna, and Mahesh Babu. She also appeared in the special number “Kissamik” in Pushpa 2: The Rule.
In 2025, she starred in Telugu films Robinhood, Junior, and Mass Jathara. This year, she made her Tamil debut with Parasakthi and is preparing for her Hindi debut in an Anurag Basu-directed film alongside Kartik Aaryan. She also has Ustaad Bhagat Singh with Pawan Kalyan in the pipeline, in addition to an untitled project with Dhanush and Sai Pallavi.
For many in the healthcare community, her journey stands out not merely because of celebrity status, but because completing a medical degree requires sustained academic focus, clinical competence, and ethical grounding, qualities that remain central to the profession regardless of parallel careers.
